Default Fuel efficiency diff between 3:73 and 3:55

Here's my dilema;

I just ordered a '12 EB and I'm torn between the two gearings. Right now I tow 3500 pounds once in a while. In the future I might get a bigger boat (6000lb range).

So my question is, how different is the fuel cunsumption with the 3:73 vs. 3:55? I've searched the forum but still am not 100% clear on the workings of the diffs. Will my engine rev higher at hwy speeds with the 73?

I'd like the 3:73 but if the savings are substancial, I could live with the weaker one.

Thanks for your help!

Alex

3:55 to 3:73 isn't a huge jump...
I'd be surprised if there was more the a one or two mpg difference if that..

If you drive unloaded above 75, you will want the 3.55. Mileage in my 3.73 drops fast when rpm rises above 2000

i'm not too sure about the difference, but i can tell you...

my 2010 screw 4x4 has a 3.55, and my truck does 100kms at 1500rpm.
yet, at 120 it'll be 1900 and at around 140, the truck purrs down the highway at 2050rpm ish. and is governed at 160kms. (i didn't realize the trucker got up to 120 AS i'm trying to pass him. needless to say, i know what the truck will do and when. lol

There isn't a big difference. Not enough to worry about.

I know my 06 GT I put in 4.10s and took out my 3.55s and I only saw a 1 MPG drop. So 3.73s will be slim to none. I realize I'm talking about a Mustang compared to a truck, but just giving you an idea.

And Yes, your RPMs will be higher with the 3.73s.

I've had both and find the 3.73 get these big heavy truck's rolling better from a stop. If you ever plan to go with a taller tire the 3.73's are better. Hwy mileage the 3.55 may get 1/4 to 1/2 mpg more at the same hwy speed. I wish my truck had the 3.73 but with the 6 speed tranny it makes the 3.55's a little more bearable.
