Fuel Economy display acting funny

Fuel Economy display acting funny
So, I'm on the freeway this afternoon and my remaining fuel display reads 80 miles remaining. I get off the freeway onto surface streets and the display now shows 120 miles remaining. It was difficult to tell whether or not the fuel guage needle adjusted slightly backwards or not ... if it did, it was so subtle that I didn't notice. But the digital fuel display did adjust itself for whatever reason. Now, of course, I can't trust whether I've got 80 miles left in the tank or 120. Any idea what could cause this? I've been out of town on vacation for the past 6 days and the truck has been sitting. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. My truck is a 2012 f150 EcoBoost with roughly 900 miles on it.
Thank you!
Thank you!

My driveway is at an angle so when i park at night and go to drive the next day the fuel gauge is way off by almost a quarter tank because its not parked level at night. I believe that the digital display for the feul is read off the actual guage. I believe this because when i park and it says a half tank i get a reading of like 200 till empty but after it finally catches up to it being level that millage returns to like 100 till empty and it changes just as fast as the gauge does. Maybe your issue is similiar, maybe not, either way hope this helps.

Yes,BUT that system has a delay built in so your gauge doesn't fluctuate. If you were parked on an incline,it WILL take a little time for it to read correctly,or if you cycle the key on/off it will read correctly.

I think the computer is looking at your current usage and recalculating based on that most immediate data, and assuming you won't change usage rates. Go faster or slower and it will recalculate again with that data. Not sure how far it goes back to calculate. Last minute? Last ten minutes?

A few weeks ago I was driving about 180 miles straight and I look down at one point and still have over 40 to go, then it started dropping about 4 miles for every 1 mile I drove. Barely made it to a gas station.
Few days ago I start my truck and go to the drive through at the bank. It said 60 when I started (right where it left off the day before) and then says 57 when I get in line. Then it drops to 6 (not 56 but 6).
Seems like Ford could have tried a little harder but as long as my gas gauge is working I think I'll be able to live with it
