Fuel economy 3.5eco vs 5.0

I have the 6 speed transmission. Unfortunately, the 10 speed hadn't come out yet.
The trip up I-95 was not towing, so no gears were locked out.
Had I been towing, I'd have been in Tow/Haul mode and I usually lock out 6th. And if I had been towing, I'd have been getting somewhere around 9 mpg, give or take 1 mpg and if I had been towing, my speed would have been between 63-65 mph.

I have two 3.5, one a 2012, and the other a 2019 HO with the 10 speed.
The 2019 get better fuel mileage than the 2012, but I do run 91 octane in the 2019.
I have almost 175K on the 2012, and my lifetime average is 16.8 MPG. I have had it as high as 25 mpg and as low as 4 when towing. I find my foot is the biggest issue when mileage is concerned. Also it has been VERY wet here lately, so I leave in in 4A due to the wet roads, because I like the better traction. Running in 4A does decrease my mileage by about .2, but I think it's worth it.
Then I find what roads am I on? If I'm on the highway during rush hour, I may move 2 miles in an hour, and fuel mileage suffers. If I'm running down the turnpike at 75+ going up and down hills, my mileage might suffer. If I'm driving down the highway at 55-60 and it's somewhat flat, I can get great mileage.
I too am getting better mileage since the summer blend has become available.
Long story short, I use to think there was something wrong with my truck, but I found out most of it was just me, and how I drove it. I was a lot more aggressive driver than I realized. I don't worry much about it anymore, I just enjoy my truck.

My best advice for fuel economy of the 3.5 vs 5.0..........
is who the F cares !
what year of vehicle are you driving right now ! ?
either way you WILL save money in fuel costs with either new vehicle vs any older vehicle !
the 3.5 vs 5.0 is close enough that it doesn't matter, unless you're talking about 10 years of real usage down the road.
I'd take the 3.5

These fuel mileage threads are funny...
Ya I get 26-28mpg too...going downhill with a tail wind!
Had a 3.5 eco for 6 years and now moved into a 5.0
The 5.0 gets a bit better mileage regular and better mileage towing...but not 26mpg
