Fords answer ro rhe little red express truck.
In1978 Dodge came out with the little red express truck. Shortlyt after Ford came out with a truck to compete with it. The Ford version was blue. Does anyone remember this truck? What was it called?

Boggles my mind why people blindly type without proof reading before they post.

IIRC one of the car/truck magazines invited Ford, Dodge, and Chevy to send an example of their fastest truck to the magazine for an in depth testing and write up. The Dodge had the smallest engine of the 3 and won by a large margin. The others weren't even close.
I don't recall Ford or Chevy trying to come up with something that would beat it. The closest thing I can think of is the Ford Lightning. Not sure when it was introduced nor specs, but think it well after 1978.
Did a little research. It seems that a loophole in the law allowed the 78 Dodge to be manufactured without a catalytic converter and other emissions controls. Ford and Chevy had to have them and were at a disadvantage. For 79 Dodge had to have the emissions controls in place and the playing field was leveled.

I just looked threw a number of sites to find what you're asking. Drew blanks.
Can't believe I can't remember that one. I was big into Mopar back then, had a '78 Macho Powerwagon, and was always slamming Fords. I can picture a '78 stepside, had a buddy that had one, but it was just a regular 150.
Correct on the antipollution stuff, my 360, W150, had none. It was 6050/6100 GVW.

78 D100 those are the two bitches that left me walking, one was a fleet side, the other a step side with sport package. Was the only year Dodge had that specific grille config. Main reason I was dumb enough to buy another LOL. Both had 318's and chewed up motor mounts and radiators as a result of the block hitting the frame at just the right angle. I'll say one thing, that motor was a torque monster and the fuse panel was a delight way up in the glove box.

The '77 and '78 were the same. '77 had the clear park lights, '78 had the amber, I had both, That '77 was a W150, fulltime 4X4, and a wide ratio 4 speed, lots of fun going around a turn on dry pavement. The '78 was a 727, the torque convertor took out the bucking and jerking.
