Default First Service Question

I had my 2012 F-150 at the dealer to get 18" wheels swapped out for the gunmetal gray 20"'s. I was just under 3,000 miles on my odometer so I went ahead and requested the oil and filter change since I was already there. He said ok the first one is free. An hour later when they pulled my truck around the tech said you not close to a service, you'll need that at about 7,500 miles. Seriously , maybe I'm old school but I've always had it changed at 3,000 miles in my 2006. Just wondered how long other new Ecoboost owners waited. Oh and the tech pulled up oil life on my dash (computer) and it said 68% of oil life. Wow.
Am I crazy for wanting to at least get it changed at every 5,000 miles?

It's your truck, you can have it changed when you want. Recommended may be 7,500. In this case I think more is better. I am with you.

Your not crazy, the oil life gauges is just a timer. I change every 5K.

I bought the service plan for my wife's 2012 Explorer and the service shop wouldn't even touch the car since I only had 4,500 miles on it. They said i could get the oil and filter changed early but I would have to pay for it. I told them i already paid for it and the service plan I bought included 8 oil changes and it should be done when I wanted it done...it fell on deaf ears.

I bought the service plan as well and on mine it clearly states 8000 km... I'm at 5000 km now and my oil life meter is at 75%
I don't have the facts to back it up but I'm not sure the Oil life meter is simply a timer..

Yeah my plan reads 7,500 mile service intervals. I was planning on having the first oil change done around 4k since I was going on a long road trip. I guess I was just trying to get the first oil change out of the way and get all the engine particles out prior to the road trip. Getting the first oil change done prior to 4k was just beaten into my head since I started driving.

I also bought the service plan with my truck. They'd better not pull that crap with me because I don't drive anywhere near 5000, 6000 or 7000 miles a year. Next month will mark one year of ownership and I have 1011 miles on her. Living in Hawaii I ride motorcycle year round so that's why such low mileage.

I find it ironic that the dealers dont want to change oil befor 7500 miles and then put a sticker on your windshield stateing next change is due in 3000miles or 3 months.

+1. Changed the first at 3K, then 5K there after. It's oil, it doesn't cost much, and it's the life of your engine.

With the Motorcraft Syn blend I've been going 5 to 6k miles between changes. Good time to rotate tires also. 3k miles maybe for Taxi cab's in New York City!!
