What is in that area that could start a fire? Brake fluid is the only thing there that I could think of and it's on the fire wall.

Maybe the dipstick isn't inserted all the way or not at all and sprayed a bit of oil?

The dealer think thefire could have started in the cremailliere (rack and pgnoin) as the are electric to, replace the old power stearing.

The oil stick in properly install and we have to wait for the insurance ajuster so they can remove the front end to investigate. The fire was comming up on both side of the radiator and seem to originate around the rack and pignon

I am planning a 3 month trip in February and wonder if it is a common accurance.

I have not read much about bad rack and pinions, seems isolated.

Might have been an electric motor for the steering. I have read about them going bad on Mustangs but never have heard of them catching on fire. Good luck and let us know what they do

Well I learned something new, thank you.
A crémaillère is some kind of term for rack and pinion.

The rack & pinions are electric driven and they're lubed up inside.
An electric short in the motor, a leaky gasket somewhere inside coupled with a flammable lube is a fire waiting to happen.
It can't be a common occurrence or otherwise rack & pinion fires would be all over this forum especially considering some people here like to knit pick the smallest of trivial issues.
