Some of those videos are just ridiculous. Kind of embarrassing. All trucks have their pros and cons but hearing people talk about aluminum and how weak it is..

Look at the "aluminumman" comic book video on that page.

Ford responds!

Ford released the following comment in response to the story:

"When you're the market leader for 39 years, competitors sometimes try to take shots at you with marketing stunts. The fact remains that F-150's high-strength, military grade, aluminum alloy cargo box offers the best combination of strength, durability, corrosion resistance, capability, safety and fuel efficiency ever offered in a pickup. We have built nearly a million new F-150s, and our lead over the competition continues to grow."

The toolbox was obviously loaded up judging by the way it "didn't" bounce when it hit the floor of the Ford's bed. Look at it bounce and roll off the surface of the Chevy's bed floor, it was empty.

It's complete BS, but unfortunately the general public will gobble it up.

They call them "landscape blocks". They have sharp square corners like bricks, which you would not dump into a truck bed like that. Not a very practical example. I've had a front end loader bucket full of limestone rocks dumped in my bed on top of a tarp. No holes were punched into the bed. Smoke and mirrors.

Also notice how Chevy/GMC trucks have the hideous square wheel wells. It reminds me of the saying "trying to force a round block into a square hole" or something like that lol.

A little ad background from Autoweek (can't copy the link from my tablet).

GM did 12 drops and the F150 bed averaged 4.3 holes per drop, just dents and scratches in the 12 drops in the Chevy. Total weight was 825lbs.

The toolbox weighed 28lbs. GM did 14 shoves making sure a corner would hit. Every one of those resulted in a hole in the F150. In 14 shoves into the Chevy, 2 created pinholes the rest dents.

That's it. Will it make someone decide to buy a Chevy over Ford? It probably will. Many? Probably not.

There really isn't alot of gloating about the ad on the Chevy/GMC forum I check out. Obviously, many don't want GM to go aluminum.

Well my thoughts after seeing the video myself . I have a 2005 mustang gt and I have had problems with the aluminum hood paint bubbling. It happened before the 5 yr mark and dealers said nothing could be done unless a hole from rust was present. Now we all know aluminum oxidizes and does not rot like normal metal. With that in my head already I have been a little hesitant about an aluminum f150. I really love the truck and with a big purchase it's alot to think about. The Silverado is also a beautiful truck. Bit let's be honest who is dropping landscaping blocks from that height and if someone is the truck is probably already beat to death. If I threw a loaded tool box at stressed metal I'm sure it would also make that same damage as seen in the video.and I think comparing steel to aluminum is not a fair fight apples to orange comparison. Both have their strength and weakness. .pros and cons so in the end buy what you want I know I'm getting an f150.
