F150 vs Ranger opportunity

I wouldn't trade. I just had a 3.0 yes, it's a solid motor but the ***** were missing. I also hated the weak c-channel frame. I put it on the hoist and the doors won't even open from the flex... The fact that he wants money too is over the top.

I just sold my '01 Ranger Supercab 4.0 5 speed. I really liked that truck and it lasted me 10 years and 160k miles with no engine problems and never burned a drop of oil. But, my '02 F-150 has much more room and the interior is better. The seats make all the difference. Nice and sturdy compared to the Ranger's soft mushy buckets.
My friend had the same truck as me, a 2000 with the 3.0. I did not like that motor at all. No power and geared very low. You were constantly shifting because you would run out of RPM's and for some reason the gas pedal would pulse under acceleration.
If it was a 4.0 and an even trade, it might be worth it for the mileage, but not a 3.0 and wanting money.

Alright guys, thanks for all the replies. You guys have confirmed my suspicions that the trade would not be worth it and I would regret trading down to the smaller truck. Now I will be looking into some simple upgrades for my F150 to squeeze as much as mpg out of it as I can. One of my biggest gripes about it right now is there is no cruise control. Which was not a big deal when I first got it, but now I am driving 100 mile trips about 3 times a week and cruise control would probably help my foot out as well as my fuel mileage. I will be calling some dealerships to see what they charge to install the whole thing. I have checked around the forums and apparently it's not too hard to install yourself and the cruise control switches are all you need since acceleration is electronically controlled. However even when you do it yourself you will need the dealership to program the switches which the average price seems to be $100-150. So if it's not that expensive ($300-400) I will probably just have them deal with it all. Thanks again guys for your input.

I had Rangers with both the 3.0 and the 4.0. The 3.0 is so slow and sluggish. Sold that truck after a week. The 4.0 was decent. But now that I have the F150 I would never downsize to a smaller truck. Just my opinion. Hope it helps you.
