Default Is F150 a good and practical replacement for a midsize family SUV.

We have 2 vehicles, 1 Pilot and 1 Accord and the Pilot is our family car. We have been wanting to replace our Pilot since last year because it’s been given us issue. We were originally thinking to get another Pilot but when traveling with a big dog on a long distance family vacations it can get quite uncomfortable. We then changed our mind for a minivan. However, my teenagers don’t think its “cool” to ride on a minivan.
Would an F150 be a good and practical replacement for a midsize family SUV, are there any places/occasions that you go and would prefer driving a smaller vehicle instead?

A Supercrew F150 with the front bench seat can seat 6.
A Supercrew with the dedicated center console can seat 5

I have a family and own an F150. Works out nicely. Got room, the ability to tow, cool factor, a truck bed for...stuff, and it seats my family just fine. Very comfortable on long trips as well. I hate driving smaller vehicles after owning my truck for all these years. And 4x4 gives you the extra ability to venture further off the beaten path.

We've never had a SuperCrew cabbed truck. But we did our family trips (2 adults, 2 teens) in a '99 Expedition with the center bench laid flat. This is a full size SUV and I can't imagine being in something smaller WITH a big dog. I'd suggest you rent or get a 24hr test drive of a Supercrew F150 around the price you're comfortable with.

Something else to keep in mind. *********************

Our Expy also served as my dad's daily driver for 10 years and it was AWD/4wd and we use it as a tow rig around the farm and hauling tools with a protective floor mat in the back. I drove it to Montana in Sept. 2015 and slept in the back for a 8 days of antelope hunting. I'd definitely not overlook a full size SUV at least until your teens are out of the house.

Sorry, it was a few details about the 2022 model year Honda Pilot that I'm currently looking at.

I don't know if I would have gotten in legal trouble with the details, but better safe than unemployed and/or in jail.

Yep! 5 in my family and we can travel across the country in comfort and style. WIth a topper on it and a bedrug, its not much different than an SUV, and it gives us separation so if we have the Gas genny back there, we don't get gas smeels in the cab, and when the kids eat too many beans...well you get the idea!

We have a 2012 Toyota Highlander Limited that my wife drives. A fairly nice ride, if I do say so myself. I bought a 2012 F150 SuperCrew Lariat not long after we bought the Highlander. In late January this year I traded the 2012 F150 in on a new 2016 Lariat SuperCrew. Since we've had the Highlander we've ALWAYS taken the F150's on trips. Not because the Highlander would be uncomfortable....simply because the F150 is so darn nice on a trip. A couple of years ago we drove up from Alabama to see (my sons school) Jacksonville State play Michigan State in the seasons football opener. 4 of us went in the 2012 F150 and it proved to be a great family long distance hauler. I run a tonneau on my trucks.

With a large dog?

Never in a million years.

I would worry about the teenagers thinking a vehicle was not "cool" as soon as they paid for said vehicle.

How many people total? How big of a dog?

I would think that even a SuperCrew would be cramped with 2 adults, 2 kids and a big dog inside especially when you say that traveling in the Pilot (which is pretty big inside) "can get quite uncomfortable".
