F150 dent in tailgate

Hi everyone. I just found this dent on my 2019 f150 XLT. I’m really bummed out about it. Only had the truck for 6 months and have babied the crap out of it. I have no clue where it came from and really want to get it fixed. Any suggestions? Will PDR work on this? I’m also a little concerned at how the paint cracked beside the dent. Any thoughts ?

PDR will fix the dent, as for the cracked paint, the only way to fix that is to sand it down and blend in new paint. How's your insurance deductible? It's been my experience that a PDR only dent is about $100. Refinishing the area cracked can be significantly more.

2 weeks after I got my new truck, it got pummeled in a hail storm so I feel your pain.

Thats what I’m worried about is getting the paint fixed properly. I’m assuming a body shop could fix the paint ? I don’t understand either how the dent could make the paint crack like that.

Wife put a dent in our tailgate In the same spot. She left something on the bumper and opened the gate.

Bring it to a local body shop; most have a PDR guy there or they use so they would first PDR the dent, then they would have to refinish the area. They could either blend it, or most likely if you want a perfect job, repaint the entire tailgate.

I PDR'd mine, touched up the broken paint with a touch-up pen myself and slapped on a OEM "4X4" badge over that spot. Looks factory for less than a hundred bucks. If you don't have 4x4, just use a badge representing your engine or something. In a year you won't even remember its there.

This is what I would do.

The paint on the truck will suffer more paint chips, scratches and scuffs etc over the coming months. It's a waste of money to have the entire tailgate redone. Have the pointless ding guy fix the dent. Which should not take long. Clean the area touch up the paint like you would any scratch or paint chip and forget about it. Use the sticker method as mentioned. Dont worry about it. I know it sucks to get your first blemish but there will be more to come. Over the course of almost 18 months....my truck has suffered a few chips on the hood....I brushed alongside a stupid stick when my girlfriends driveway approach was being done and it left a trio of chips on the passenger fender....I have a few rock chips along each side of the truck and last and most definitely not the least each door has a small ding (which has to be viewed from an angle) at the exact same height and almost the same location.....Can anyone GUESS what they are???? CLUE: They are a direct cause from lazy people.....

So the PDR guys are effective dealing with aluminum panels? I have a three rock dents in a probably tough spot to get to, one slightly above and two below the F-150 badge on the driver’s side front fender. It may take removing the wheel liner to get at ‘em with one of their specialist tools.

Minor yes, but I have only had it about three months. Guy coming towards me on a two lane road slung them from his tire so our combined speed made those rocks sound like buckshot hitting the truck. :( I am planning on covering the third dent with a Ford Performance badge.
