It has an antenna for radio reception. It is durable enough for anything you want to put it through.

Yeah it should be ok, I run mine thru a car wash all the time and no problems at all. You can unscrew it at the base if it worries you, keep an open end or adjustable wrench in the glove box.

Radio antenna can be put into the glass very easy. There is no need for any car to have physical antenna anymore.

Expense, cost more to put it in the windshield. Also problems with reception in certain weather conditions such as when wipers are crossing it.

I can get a brand new windshield for my K5 with antenna for $130. It's not a cost thing. No problems with reception.

It is a cost thing. Its over complicating something as simple as an antenna. Theres no need to put it inside glass when it can easily be placed on the roof with a short antenna.

Still, a windshield antenna is a compromise, and still is problematic with the newer HD stations. But, HD stations are a whole different problem.
