Extended warranty on a used F150
#11
The only significant failure I had on my '01 F150 was a transmission at 160k miles. $2000 for replacement back in '09. I sold it at 240k miles with no further failures. Current '13 3.5 EB has 115k miles with no problems with any of the items covered by the extended warranty. I can't see how spending $2600 or even $1600 for a warranty for only 150k miles can make any sense.

With one month left on my wife's 2010 Taurus SHO the turbos had to be replaced which could've cost me $3200.00 had it not been for my ESP warranty! My 2013 150 FX4 is loaded so $66 for 24 months interest free for a 9yr and 125k ESP was worth the peace of mind! But that's what insurance is...a risk decision.

I purchased a ‘16 XLT Sport Screw 3.5 Ecoboost with max tow, 20” wheels with Dura Trac tires, tow mirrors, tonneau cover, bed mat, GPS, 1 yr Sirius, tinted windows, projector headlights, WeatherTech mats, and 6,200 miles for $36,500. I opted for the 7 year Platinum coverage for $1,850.
with all of the newer electronics etc., it was worth it to me.

Each has their own personal experiences. My Ford experience for the past 16 years says an extended warranty for the FIRST 150k miles won't be worth it. If they priced the warranty like that for the SECOND 150k miles, it would be more attractive.
I look at insurance as a protection from a catastrophic loss that will bankrupt me or at least significantly affect my life. That's why I have an umbrella liability policy.
One budgeting advisor says to keep 3-6 months of living expenses in an emergency cash fund. I think that would buy a transmission.

If you get an extended warranty, only get an Ford ESP warranty, and only from a Ford dealer. There are two or three Ford dealers that sell ESP's on line. I got mine from Ziegler in MI.

extended warranty
Just bought my F150 2016 Lariat with 10,000 miles and Ford Dealer wanted $2200.00 but showed him on line I could get it for $1200.00 so he agreed and payed that amount. Bought my wife a Toyota Avalon and the Toyota Dealer wanted the same outrageous amount but came down to $1100.00. Both 7 years extended.

bought the 8/ 75000 warrant for 1500$ after b to b ran out

An extended warranty is basically just an insurance... As to ''is it worth or not'', flip a coin! Most of the people who buy them will not need them at all or the cost for Ford to replace the failed parts will end up being less than what they had actually paid for the warranty itself.
If they sell these, that's because they make profit out of them. That's what capitalism is all about.
My 2 advices:
1) Stick with Ford ESP. Third party warranties = most of the time crap.
2) Never buy at full price, you can easily cut down 50% of the MSRP, unless you buy from Zeigler of Flood.
