Extended Crank
Hello everyone, I am having an extended crank problem with my F-150. I will make sure to add all the information below to help get a better picture.
Truck:
- 2007 F-150 XLT 4.6 Regular Cab
Problem: having extended crank issues. The first cold crank is perfect, and if I turn the truck off and turn it right back on it’s perfect. However, if I let it sit for more than 20 minutes it takes some time to crank. Once it runs, it runs perfect. Doesn’t stall out or anything just an extended crank.
what I’ve tried so far:
- Replaced spark plugs less than a year ago
- new battery less than a year ago
- new fuel sensor
- new fuel pump
- new fuel pump drivers module
I’m assuming it’s either a fuel or ignition problem and only other things I can think of are coils or fuel filter. Anything wold be truly appreciated. Thank you all in advanced

injectors?
how long does this extended crank occur? if its 5 seconds or less i would let it be unless a bigger problem pops up in the future. would be more of an annoyance than an actual problem to me if that is the case

Let the truck sit for 20 minutes. Cycle the ignition on (not run) for ten seconds, then off. Repeat three times, then see if it starts right up with no pedal. If it starts right up, you've got a vapor issue or leak in the fuel lines.
If it does not start, get it started, then do the 20 minute wait again. Press the pedal to the floor and hold it there while you crank the engine. Do this for half the cranks it typically takes you to get it started. Release the pedal and crank it again. If it starts right up, a leaky injector is the suspect.

You have a dripping injector or two. Your symptoms are textbook.
The next time you expect the condition to arise, hold the pedal to the floor and I bet it starts right up.
