Yup, just what I have been saying since I bought my truck 3 years ago. Buy 'me new, beat the living snot out of it till it's outta warranty, then trade it off for one with the latest gadgets,) this method works every time. I kinda pity the poor SOB that gets my trucks after I'm done with 'me, but not really. BTW, other than 1 warranty repair- when brand new, it hasn't been back for anything, although I'm sure that's gonna change as time goes by.

Ford says the in wheel pressure monitors should last for 5-6 yrs. I have an 09 F150 and had 2 go out at the same time, (driver front & passenger rear). I checked my 3 local Ford dealerships and they all said to replace all 4 at a cost of $800 dollars parts and labor. I went to one of the shops I use for my other cars and they identified the 2 bad ones, re-programmed and replaced just those 2 and it only cost me $257 dollars.

Hey, guys, a regular mechanical repair place may not be the best idea for tire stuff. Shop around.

The invoice is for 2 sensors on a Cadillac SRX that I had done 2 years ago, the front 2 were done under warranty.

Discount tire charges $55 + tax for the sensor, and that includes changing, balancing and programming, $119 total. They still work fine.

Discount says that the sensors are pretty generic, a couple of outfits make them for everybody.

Anyway, shop around.
