Default Exhaust Tip

I'm looking for a new exhaust tip and I looked at the tip on it now and realized that the original piping goes all the way to the end of the tip. Did anyone have to cut the end of the exhaust pipe down to keep the new tip from sticking out too far, or will the end of the piping not show if the tip is slipped farther back? Pictures would be helpful. Thanks!

Most tips will slip-on far enough so that the end of the tailpipe is covered and not sticking-out. Personal examples ...

MAGNAFLOW polished stainless steel, 3" inlet / 4" outlet / 12" long - part # 35212

.
GIBSON Ceramic Coated Matte Black Stainless Steel, 3" inlet / 4" outlet / 12" long - part # 500427-B

I removed my tip cut the tailpipe about 10", right before the bend and replaced tip. Then replaced factory tip with a Gibson 4" tip. Exhaust Tip-image-1019109641.jpg Exhaust Tip-image-1558532186.jpg
This pic shows you OEM tip with cut tail pipe. From the factory the tip sticks to at out IMHO. Exhaust Tip-image-1172030362.jpg

I have that matte black Gibson one. I didn't cut anything, but after a few months I decided that I needed to - it sticks out too far and gets dirty really quickly. Plus, you can see the stock pipe, which I don't like. Haven't done it yet, but the recent snow and rain and mud convinced me to do it, maybe this weekend.

I don't. I cut it just before the bend, cut a total of about 10" off with a sawzall.

So a 3" inlet is what's ideal for a 2013?
