Exhaust ideas
New member! I got an expedition (I know this is an f150 forum but the expedition forum seemed dead) anyway I'm thinking about cutting all 4 cats off and running just 1 high flow cat and no muffler.. it's a 98 with the 5.4.. basically I want it to be stupid loud without being really clappy sounding..thanks for your tips!

It won't only be stupid loud, it'll be stupid stinky too. Leave the cats alone, and get a quality exhaust.

please leave your kitties on there. A nice muffler with a good tip, you'll be set. I use twin thrush on my 5.4. Low idle bumble, but sounds nasty when you get on it. Still get goose-bumps if I let my wife drive it and hear her take off lol

1. Don't cut out your cats.
2. Don't cut out your cats.
3. if you made it this far, know that you will have a permanent 'Check Engine' light if you mess with the front cats. If you cut out the rear cats, you'll have to take that up with whatever controlling legal authority (if there is one) that is responsible for checking your emmission systems.
If you're required to have a muffler, go dual exhaust with 12" glasspacks. those barely count, but they are mufflers.
I've heard a similar year van with the front cats and straight pipes, it had a nice mellow rumble at idle and a good beller when the pedal was down. I'm not sure it was nice to ride in, though. interior resonance on a van/suv can get bad real quick with loud pipes. There's ways to fix that if you have a real smart exhaust shop.
