Default 20.8 MPG Hwy on new supercrew cab F150 4x4

I recently purchased a supercrew cab F150 4x4 with the econoboost engine. During the my first Hwy drive with less than 100 miles on truck I got about 18.5 MPG at 75 MPH between Houston and San Antonio. More recently with a 1000 miles on truck I got 20.8 MPG at 70 to 75 MPH between San Antonio and Austin. There appears to be a break in period for any engine before it reaches it's peak performance. My truck seems to have reached that at 1000 miles.

I have the same vehicle and have driven those same trips/speeds several times and have never gotten anywhere close to what you are getting. I drive trying to get every drop of mpg and best I've gotten is 17mpg. Now my instant mpg gauge will make me think I'm getting close to 18.5 but calculated at the pump says 17 mpg. On a recent 3000 mile all highway trip up through the middle of the country going from 65-80 mph I averaged 16mpg. I have a little over 9k miles now.

If I can keep my foot out of the gas I can get 20 on the highway. Everyday driving I get 16-17. I have yet pulled the camper. I have a 2010 Screw 4.6 3v.

I haven't calculated my MPG at the pump, that 20.8 MPG was the truck computer app. I've been told by others that the truck computer app is pretty close to the real world calculation at the pump. Next time I fill up I'll post my results.
I hope you're not using Cornhusker Ethanol, that would explain your poor MPG. HaHa

No cornhusker fuel. But when I was back up north I was able to get real gas that wasn't watered down with the ethanol or had all of our smog control addatives. That was my best tank mpg.

So I did a small experiment on the last 2 tanks for fuel I put in my truck just to see some realistic numbers on my everyday driving...Here is what I came up with (2013, F-1.50 XLT 4x4, 3.55, 1500 miles...City driving only)....assuming that the fuel prices stayed consistent all year long and I kept my MPG consistent. I hope I did my math correct...if not...I apologize!!

Unleaded (E-10, 87 octane)-36 GALLON TANK
-17.4 MPG/AVG
$3.50/GALLON
AVERAGE MILES PER YEAR - 15,000
862 GALLONS OF FUEL USED/YEAR
23.94 FILL UPS PER YEAR
$3017.24 FUEL COST/YEAR ($1493.53 is federal/state taxes)
$0.202/MILE

E85 FLEX FUEL
- 14.7 MPG/AVG
$2.99/GALLON
AVERAGE MILES PER YEAR - 15,000
1021 GALLONS OF FUEL USED/YEAR
28.36 FILL UPS PER YEAR
$3052.79 FUEL COST/YEAR ($1511.13 is Federal/State taxes)
$0.204/MILE

No wonder why the Government wants that E85 to be in your tank...more tax dollars for these politicians to waste!!

Now, I want to purchase a Tuner for my truck and I would hope I could somehow squeeze 1-2 MPH increase in fuel mileage which would help me pay for the tuner. Here is the math for that:

Increase 2 MPH to 19.4 MPG/AVG
$3.50/GALLON
AVERAGE MILES PER YEAR - 15,000
773 GALLONS USED
21.50 FILL UPS PER YEAR
$2705.50 FUEL COST/YEAR
$0.181/MILE
SAVINGS PER YEAR $312.00 (Looking to get a tuner for around $310.00...coincidence???) Paid for in one year

If I can squeeze out more MPG savings, it is just money in the bank!! This is how I plan to sell it!

I have 3,000 miles on my screw eco-boost 4x4, if it starts (5 dead batteries in 3 months) I am getting 15.2 in town and if I set cruise at sweet spot of 69mph I average 20.3 with no steep grades or strong head winds. I get excellent gas mileage when its behind the tow truck because the battery is flat dead randomly overnight with nothing left on or plugged in! Fords solution is to just keep replacing the battery! Now that's customer service!! $44,000 beater in my garage! GO FORD!!! makes me want to puke!

The sweet spot is actually around 43 mph. It will get over 30 mpg at that speed.

Btw, I had a mystery dead battery too. I was able to recharge it though and not a problem since. It was weird because it was stone cold dead after sitting a couple days and it hasn't recurred. 28000 miles.
