Dome light.
I’m pretty new to this site, but I’ve received some good help here. A few months ago, I purchased a 2013 XL Screw shortbed PU with 140k miles. I was told it was a 1- owner vehicle and the previous owner was a county sheriff’s department. When I open the doors, the dome lights don’t come on. Can someone please tell me where the door switches are for them?
Also, when I took out the front dome light, in between the two lights I found what looks like a grey blank filler cover that has a cable connector plugged into it, that actually isn’t going to anything. Can someone please tell me what this is for? Could it possibly be for a backup camera? I’d like to put one in, and it would be really nice if it was.
Thanx

The door latch is where the wires will be that signal the Body Control Module (BCM) that the door is ajar. Do you get that message on your dash when you open the door with the truck running?
That door ajar switch tells the BCM the door is open and the BCM turns on the interior lamp.(or tells another module to)
Also the headlamp switch has the dimmer control for the interior lamp. Will the lamp come on with that ?
I forgot to ask if you check any fuses on the interior fuse box?
Just a few things to get you started.
There is such a thing called dark mode, a setting in the BCM to keep the lamp off when the door is opened too. (for police work I heard)
The backup camera was either in the rear view mirror or on the radio display screen. The over head wires you found probably are not for that but if you post a picture of the plug and wire colors maybe it can be identified.

I think you will find being a police dept. vehicle You might have to turn them on ?? (forscan or dealer) ( also stealth mode) Domes usually don't come on in a cop car because it would be a dead giveaway it's the cops...It also would light up the officer 's silhouette etc... It was also kind of a safety feature ??

Dome light
Thanx for the info; I have a feeling it is like MACO said--it was turned off in the BCM. When I turn the headlight switch all the way on, the back dome light does come on, but not the front--again, it was probably programmed that way. I do have some photos, the unknown cable I was talking about is identified in the third photo. The place it is plugged into is not actually a connector, just a blank holder. I'd really like to know what this goes to.
Thanx again, for all the help so far.

Yes, I believe that is exactly the one. So, it seems it is mostly switches for the moonroof (which I don't have) and the rear window up/down switch (which I also don't have). But, it's really good to know. I'm still getting to know all the features of my truck, and really appreciate the helpful info.
