I have a 2013 xlt 4x4 with the 5.0. Got 6500 miles on her and just returned from a 640 mile round trip. Got 20.1 mpg going at 70-75 mph. I towed a 29ft travel trailer back at 60-65 mph and got 9 mpg.

Default 18.3 mpg

Have a 2012 SCREW 6.5' bed 4x4 with the 5.0.

Averaged 18.3 on the 1200 mile round trip from San Antonio to New Orleans and back. Highway speeds of 70-75.

Best fuel economy I've ever gotten out of a Ford Truck by far.

I have to agree. Does anyone honestly purchase a truck and expect to get GREAT gas mileage? I didn't. Although, I did get an average of 19 on the HWY in my truck (before the new wheels/tires). I do miss that!

However, on the topic of achieving better MPG's; has anyone ever heard of OMSTAR d-1280X?

My 98 2WD Ranger got 16 around town and up to 20 on the highway, but the aveage was close to 17. My F-150 is actually better.

My sister had a two wheel drive Ranger. Loved the truck, but can't believe I do better for.fuel.economy with my F150 with a V8.

2013 XL reg cab 3.7 V6, 1500miles odometer.

Last week, filled up at the start of the week, and stopped again on the last day to topoff again. 9.47 gallons, approx 208 miles. avg 21.96mpg.

I didn't set a trip meter that week. I'll check it again, but those numbers are pretty accurate. I've been driving this route for awhile. It's about 19 highway, and 7 city.

I'll run it again next week with a fresh topoff. The V6 is plenty for my needs, and screams if you need it to.

During a 565 mile road trip when the vehicle had less then 400 miles on it, the average MPG hit over 19. The vehicle showed an avg of 13 when I took delivery with about 7 miles on it.

Just a comment on higher elevations, you will normally get better mileage in States like Colorado or Wyoming Vs states that are at 2,000' or less elevation. My '09 4 cylinder Escape gets 24 to 25 in western Oregon got 29 thru Wyoming. My 89 Mustang averaged 26 MPG in Oklahoma, but would get 30 MPG thru Colorado. Higher elevation does several technical things like air density, temperature and others I'm told. I don't understand it, but I can see the results. Higher elevation states sell lowered octane fuel too. I'm always tempted to by higher grade to avoid "Knock", but I guess that is not as much of an issue in modern fuel injected, computer controlled vehicles

67,000 miles never been to the shop except for oil changes

Most trips I average 21 to 22 mpg. 1 trip of a 1,000 miles (Wichita ks to Atlanta Ga) 23.8 mpg.

Trip from Wichita, Ks to Detroit, Mi 23.8 mpg

3.15 gear ratio with Hankook P235-75r17 nitrogen filled tires.

A friend bought new rims and tires for his 4X4 SCB XLT so since my tires had 65,000 and look like I could get another 10 out them I decided to buy his rims and tires.

P275-65r18 no nitrogen

Now my gas mileage sucks....... Can't get 20 mpg Where I constantly got 21 to 22 now I am lucky to get 18. Pulling my 4,000 lb trailer where I use to get 16 to 18 depending on wind now is 13 to 15 mpg.

So here is the question? Was it the nitrogen in the tires that gave me the good mpg?

The tires now altho are taller should have just changed the speedometer making it slower. It is slower by 3 mph now.

I am thinking it is the width of the tire. These tires are a lot wider. More rubber on the pavement more wind drag.

I've figured out the instant MPG doesn't mean anything unless you never reset it. Measured MPG I get around 17mpg (miles driven / # of gallons pumped into tank). I was resetting my instant mpg every fill and it was consistently 1-1.5mpg higher than measured. I haven't reset it in about 1500 miles and it is now showing 17.2 mpg...first tank showed 18.7 mpg while I only really got 16.7 mpg. Same with trip odometer. I haven't reset Trip A since I took possesion and it shows avg 16.9 mpg. Trip B was reset at same time I last reset the instant and they both are at 17.2 mpg. So if you are going off your dash board calculated info when you quote your mpg you are likely way off unless you've logged several thousand miles since your last reset.
