Electrical problem
Hello all. This should be an interesting topic. I'm having an issue with my 2010 f-150 platinum, 5.4l. I have the automatic running boards and when close my doors, they work properly. BUT when I attempt to raise or lower any window from ANY switch (Not just master on driver door), the running boards extend down and message appears "Driver door ajar" I thought initially it was the driver door latch, but realized if that switch was bad, the boards would not retract when door is closed. Obviously a short somewhere. Has anyone experienced this problem? regardless of where the windows are activated, the switches on all four doors initiate this problem. Any help would be obviously and greatly appreciated. Thanks .....it's a head scratcher!!
A lot of trucks get broken wires in the door wire harness between driver door and the jam. Any door at times but it sounds like you might have a problem with the driver door. Open door and peel back insulation and look for broken wires.
I'd leave the wiring bundles alone for a bit unless specifically indicated by further troubleshooting. No need to go on a fishing trip and open that can of worms unnecessarily.
Sounds more like a "bad ground", probably in a circuit that is common to the LF door ajar switch and the power window circuits. I'd start by pulling the LH A pillar kick plate and inspect the grounding points there for anything out of order such as loose or corroded connections or, worse yet, body rot.
A look at the schematics shows that the LF door ajar switch shares a ground with all of the door power windows via a spliced ground circuit (S500) inside the LF door which then feeds through the bundle via a BK-VT wire to G200 behind that LH kick panel. It's my theory that a fault in that ground circuit can cause the door ajar signal (grounded when closed) to the SJB is not intact and it's causing a rise in the voltage signaled to the SJB when the window motors draw current causing a false trigger to the SJB that the driver's door is open, triggering the extension of the running boards.

Thank you!!!! There is enormous rot under the door from cab corner working towards front of truck. My truck does have sun roof and rot started from drain lines coming down behind driver rear door. I noticed the the window switch acting up as the rot became worse during the past two winters in PA. (Road salts) I will investigate the issue and pass this info along to garage if i can not locate myself. This really seems like a great place to investigate. Thank you again!!!
