Electric Fan swap help!
 

I've been reading up on efan swaps for the 04-08 so I decided to give it a try.

I thought I would save myself some trouble and pick up an OEM efan from a 2010 F150 and order a controller online.

Everything I've checked say the controllers wont work with the OEM fan. Are they just trying to push their own fans?

Can anyone shed some light, I haven't been able to find any answers to this. The only thing I can think is because the efans I have use a ford connector but that doesn't really deter me, I can work around that.

The PCM controls the fan operation on the newer vehicles, since your truck came with a mechanical belt driven fan the necessary programming is not available for an oem set up.

Best bet is to go with an after market set up, it should come with it's own set of relay and sensor inputs.

Thanks for the response! I get that, I just don't understand what makes the factory fans different from the aftermarket efans that are compatible with the controllers.

Who knows, maybe it's a different programming language like the difference between Mac and PC. What I do know is the aftermarket fans will be more plug-n-play user friendly than trying to make the oem PCM operate them.

Oh no, I don't want my PCM to operate the fans, I need the aftermarket controller to do that. Unfortunately what I'm finding on the sites you can order fan controllers from all say not to be used with the OEM efans for some odd reason.

The OEM electric fan pulls a **** ton of amps at first start up. Most aftermarket controllers can't handle it and burn up. If you go into the 04-08 section there are tons of threads that really dive into the details.

I dont use controllers...a stout 100A non/inrush current 3-speed resistor harness is my solution-cant go wrong with HD relays and a BMW dual temp fan switch!

I just ordered one of the setups from above don't have it yet but after seeing the setup and the way he does it impressed me. Also. he sells those relay packs attached to oem Ford fans to restore guys hotrodders etc. I have a question 07 F150 does the low side pressure switch have a 12 volt connection. I don't have my factory wiring manual yet and Haynes does not show the switch.

Just be sure to use the pics I emailed you-this setup is designed to install directly on the 2010-up fan assembly.

i had the 2010 oem efans on my previous 06 f150. i bought a dc controls fan controller to run them. never had an issue with the setup and it worked great. they kept the truck cool enough even while towing heavy in the desert temps (115 deg ) i bought the oem fan pigtails and wired those to the controller. (sorry, this was at least 6-7 years ago and i dont have the part numbers)

looks like the relay setup posted above might be a better and cheaper route to go than the controller.
