Ecoboost vs. 5.0
I currently own a 2011 lariat with the 5.0, but the ecoboost has caught my attention. The dealer I use has a 2012 lariat ecoboost. I was curious to everyone's opinions on each of them, to help me make up my mind. Thanks!!

I have a 2014 5.0 screw and although I have no driving experience with the ecoboost I can tell you the mpg is about the same between the two. The eco produces more torque and hp. Being an old school kinda guy I couldn't get myself to buy a turbo v6 over the v8 if the gas milage wasn't a worth while difference. I'm also not towing a huge travel trailer or boat so there wasn't any benefit there for me either.
All that being said I couldn't justify the additional $1,200.00 for the eco

Both great engines, can't go wrong with either one. The ecoboost has more hp & tq, accelerates faster and pulls harder than the 5.0. The 5.0 gets about the same mpg and has the v8 sound. Both are good for towing, ecoboost I give the advantage. I like them both, but I would choose the ecoboost.

I have the 5.0 in my 2014 STX and love it. I also have the 5.0 in my 2012 GT stang and have great luck with that one as well. I'm constantly reading posts on this site about issues with the ECO and not so many on the 5.0. My friend has a 2013 XLT with the ECO and he loves that thing and has had no issues that I'm aware off. He pulls a massive camper/trailer with it and says it has power to spare. If I was towing some serious weight I would consider the ECO but otherwise I think the 5.0 is the way to go. I was at my dealer the other day having a key made and the service manager came out to my truck to program my key, he pointer to a 2013 black 5.0 XLT and said that was his truck and that he uses it to pull four sleds every weekend. I asked why he didn't get the ECO and he smiled and said the 5.0 was the right choice.
