Ecoboost vs. 5.0

One of the guys here has had a few things replaced on his EB through warranty-starter, one turbo, and the ecm module. His truck still has an odd tick and gets not real great gas mileage. He isn't real happy with it right now. Another guy has an odd whirring sound when his is idling-it has had it for a while and now that his warranty is gone..it is there to stay he figures.
They replaced the ecm thinking it would get rid of the hesitation but it didn't. I find the drive by wire system to suck even in my wife's Focus..there are times when it hesitates in the weirdest times...like turning left in an intersection...

I went and bought a eco scab today. 3.31 work nice seems to keep rpm at 1200 while im easy on it. I put 40 city miles on and was at 15 mpg avg. I hit the 65 mph for a few and 18.5 was fine by me. the 5.0 might be better on fuel and more reliable but only red xlt scab around me was a eco, so be it!

so thought i would throw this little story up. So to start I have a 2012 F150 4x4 XTR 6.5ft bed screw with a 2.5" level. Anyways so today I meet with one of my contractors who use to own a 2010 raptor who now just bought a 2013 FX4 4x4 screw with 5.5' box stock with eco boost in it. So i asked him how he liked the eco boost going from the 6.2 and how the gas was on it. He tells me its quicker but he is at 21L/100km i was shocked cause im getting 16L/100km does this seem normal?

Both great engines, can't go wrong with either one. The ecoboost has more hp & tq, accelerates faster and pulls harder than the 5.0. The 5.0 gets about the same mpg and has the v8 sound. Both are good for towing, ecoboost I give the advantage. I like them both, but I would choose the ecoboost.
Having owned a 2013 XLT with the 3.5L, I would have to disagree with the statement of both good engines. It may produce more HP/Torq and a little better milage, but does have issues (example: hard excel and I would have loss of power, engine shudder and check engine would start flashing). I now have the 5.0L in aFX4, and can honestly say it's a much better with about a mile or two less on MPG.

And what do you mean by hard excel? As in fast, twitchy, rough or what?

He is not lying about the mpgs. The ecboost only gets 1 mph better than the 5.0 and towing they get about the same. Towing they get the same. But the ecoboost does have more torque.

Don't bump a 2 week old Ecoboost vs 5.0 thread. Seriously.
