Ecoboost and high mileage ???

If you want to get high mileage with an Ecoboost, you have to learn how to drive for it. I am finally averaging 20 mpg with my 2014 Screw 4x4 with 3.31 gears.
I use the cruise button. When I am traveling level road, the cruise is on. When I reach a down hill road, I hit the button to turn it off and coast as far as I can. When I am going up hill, I also turn the cruise off and try to keep a light foot on the gas pedal to avoid going into a lower gear as much as possible. Hit a level road and hit resume to have the cruise on again.
I find I am getting much higher mileage doing this and am finally averaging 20 mpg.

I was inches away from buying one with eco, but while looking through the owners manual for a random truck, it said not to plow with anything but the V-8, and it got me worried that maybe there could be a heat issue or something, considering it had higher torque numbers and so otherwise should be better suited for plowing?...anyone have an answer for that one? I may trade my 15 in next year for the eco, if I can get past that concern.

Hey Everyone,
I'm a newbie to the forum but I have been with a Ford Dealership since 2008 as I was graduating college. I have been in sales for the past 3 years which I love. The reason I am posting here is because I currently drve a 2011 Ecoboost with 166k miles. Besides plugs and a couple 02 sensors, it has been great, until recently. I just got the dreaded timing chain rattle during cold start. Parts at employee pricing will be a little over $600. Costs for labor at employee rate ($40) is over $500. They call for 12.5 hrs of labor. Fortunately my 27 year old brother is an A tech with the same Ford Dealership and will be doing this at home if I just don't run it through the shop. I'm also going to be needing. New cats and will probably go ahead with a nice down pipe setup. I'm averaging 15.5mpg, crew cab,4x4, 3.31 axle ratio, and driving in the mountains of NC. I can say that I love my ecoboost. If I can drop $1,500 and get another 165k, I'm going to be a happy camper. I feel that the turbos may be the next issue but I hope that's many more miles to come.

I just bought a 2012 FX4 super crew, with 94K miles. Runs smooth as butter. The dealer changed out the spark plugs after my test drive, as there was a stutter during my test drive. I noticed a few issues at idle, and when pressing the gas from a stop. Thought it was the plugs, but turns out the tech at the dealer didn't check the gap on the plugs. 3 were at .028, and 3 were around .031. I gapped them all to .028, and it runs super smooth.

I'm at 103,000 miles with my 2012. 2 sets of plugs so far (did them myself). Leaking coolant reservoir, otherwise so far so good! Plan is to trade at 225,000...

Long term update
Hey all!
2011 FX4 SCAB ECO with 3:73 gears, topper, and Duratracs. The truck currently has 118,600 miles on it. I bought the truck used with 71k on it. At 91k I had to replace 2 coil packs and one bad sensor. Brakes and rotors done around 95k. Besides that just regular oil changes and fluid changes. I have never replaced the spark plugs as of yet but it is on the to do list (lets go tax returns!) Truck runs great. It has retained all of its power and acceleration. Since I moved to Colorado the mileage has gone down a bit due to the hilly terrain in which I live and the short commute times and mileages that I drive daily. Average city driving is between 13-16.5 mpg depending on traffic. Average highway is still fairly good at 18-21 mpg at 70 mph. When traveling on backroads that have a speed limit of 55mph I have seen an average of 28 mpg!!! Obviously that doesn't happen very often though lol. I've only towed a few times with it. The cross country trip with a 5000lb cargo trailer with about 900lbs in the bed of the truck I averaged 13 mpg from TN to CO. Not horrible considering I the power I still had on tap when needed. I hope this truck last me a long time to come. I love driving it! If anyone has tips on maintenance let me know! I never want to let this truck go! Only reason I would give it up would be for a RAPTOR!
