Ecoboost fuel economy

I sure wish someone had real solutions for this gas mileage thing. I know we all have trucks to use them and we didn't buy them strictly for gas mileage BUT if Ford advertises 17-25 highway with the Ecoboost then I should expect something within that range, not 15-16 mpg with the cruise on.
My mileage is atrocious! To give a real life example I just drove 525 mile with my 10 foot trailer with a couch and chairs on it.......51.7 gallons of gas. That works out to about 10 mpg. That right 10. My previous truck was a F250 crew cab with a V10 and I made that trip several times and ALWAYS got over 13.5 pulling the same trailer and it was always loaded with building material, usually a couple of tons worth.
When new, my first couple of tanks the mileage was in the 19 range but then one day when I shut it off it smelled like someone was welding under the hood and since that day the mileage just keeps getting worse. Has anyone else had a similar issue and did anyone find the cause. Ford says "no code, no trouble"
I want my V10 back...better overall performance.

My 2012 EB has 10,000' miles on it in 6 months.
A little over 2,000 are towing a 7200# travel trailer.
My life time MPG is just under 15.
Without the trailer, driving to and from work (20% highway) i get over 18 mpg without babying it.
On the highway at 65 MPH, I get over 20. Depending on terrain, wind, etc, I get anywhere from about 20.5 to 23.
