Default Eco-Boost

Hello Folks!!...;
Just curious about the Eco-Boost engine their throwin' into the F-150's. I had a 2009 Screw with the 5.4 Triton... and that was a nice runnin' engine. But I can't get my mind around a V-6 in a full size pick-up. Yeah...I know... it has a turbo or Super Charger... (I have SC in my 2005 S Type R, and it's very respectable) But the EC is a V-6... So.... all you fellas out there with the EB... does it really work well??... Does it have to spool up like a "Rice'r" to keep up with everybody? My 2009 had a macho throaty roar at WOT, however, a "6" (unless it has an old school split manifold) does not bring the word "respectable" to mind. Now before you start, I'm not "diss'n" the EB, I'm trying to get some feedback from EB owners, and mebbe try one for myself.

i traded my lightning for an ecoboost and I love it. I miss the V8 sound but thats about it. Drive em both back to back, the ecoboost feels like it has a lot more low end grunt compared to the 5.0

If only this question had been asked before.....

If only there were an engine section...

You'd think it would have with the EB being 3 years old.

Hope you get some answers!

Had an Expedition with the 5.4 and it was nice. I took a look a week ago at an F150 and it had the Ecoboost. Went home did some research and was convinced. Made the purchase of a 2012 F150 FX4 with the Ecoboost and I can assure you that you will be impressed. It does have a little turbo lag and when they spool up you can really feel it. I had a Buick Grand National in 1987 when I graduated college and it was a V6 with a turbo and it was extremely quick. The Ecoboost pulls hard thru the RPM range so wont be disappointed

The ecoboost has quite a bit more power than the old 5.4. It doesn't have that great v-8 sound though.

With the twin turbos (one big and one small) there's almost no lag. And the 3.5 makes a lot of torque out of all it's proportion to its displacement. I love mine.

I know peak numbers dont mean a hell of alot but the 5.4 puts out 320hp to the Ecoboost's 365hp and 390 lb ft of torque to the Eco's 420 lb ft. Also remember with a simple tune from some of the manufactures the Eco boost will push way more. With the livernois 93 octane tune you gain 68hp and 88 lb ft of torque over stock...How much are you spending on the 5.4l to even come close to those gains?

I'm pretty sure both the ecoboost's turbos are the same size.

they are the same turbo on both banks.. the 3.5 eco is better in every aspect compared to your 5.4, i have 34k miles on my 2011 and have had no problems... now, Sync is a whole other story, lol
