Howdy Folks!!...
I want to thank you fellas for all the replies, although from one comment, this must have been a question asked many times before. I haven't been here since 2011 when I sold my Screw for a Ranger (i suppose I should update my signature...) But I'm thinkin' about buyin' another F-150. Anybody that was annoyed by such a basic question... I humbly beg your pardon.

The real question will be if the Ecoboost is as durable as the 5.4.

Yes both turbos are identical make sure to allow some warm up time and you will be good to go. The EB package performs quite well no issues to speak of so far in my 2011 lariat SC.

Durability is my question as well. In the "old days", turbos were notorious for failing and very expensive to replace.

A co-worker of mine had a 2006 F250 diesel with a turbo that failed at around 40K miles. He had chipped his truck and Ford would not honor the warranty if I remember correctly. The bill was about $4K.

Maybe they have improved and are reliable these days, but o me, no amount of boost is worth that kind of risk.

I have a 2012 Ecoboost FX4 and it's awesome. Doesn't have the sound of a 5l which everyone points out, but the whistle of the turbos makes up for that. I love it, I wouldn't trade it for anything else...

I heard the same concerns about turbos back in 1985 when I bought my Cougar XR7. Put 93k miles on it, never had any issue with the turbo - great car. So I figure that in the last 25 years, they probably have learned a thing or two about them, and they are pretty reliable. And, in the Eco, they are water cooled.

The turbos of old had issues with ceramic bearing wear once oil was not circulating during the time your oil pump stopped like when you turn off the vehicle. The turbo set up in our new vehicles have both oil and water cooling capability so these wear issues have been greatly reduced. We use larger capacity inter coolers also, in addition we perform extensive dynamometer and vehicle level testing on every engine prior to releasing them to the public. One day you will have the same confidence in your new 3.5L as you do in your old 4.6 & 5.4L.

I love mine. The "Torture Test" Ford did was great to watch and you would *think* its super durable. Now, what they DONT tell you about the Torture Tests were things like how often they changed the oil, what types of oils used, did the trans last also? What about the drive-line period?
But to see that 3.5 frozen, heated, frozen.... over and over and "tortured" it was certainly a nice selling video.

New turbos are way better than older ones. The EB has 2 same size Turbos, one on each side. Both are oil AND water cooled and meant to last a LONG time.

As for the power.. Well its relative. Compared to when I'm driving a CL65 AMG with 600+ HP and 740+ TQ, its slow.... Compared to an AUDI A3 TDI, its fast.

I will say, I can leave just about 90+% of the cars out there at the stop light no problem. Even those pesky 3 series BMWs (the slow ones). Its downright quick for a truck. And it seems to pull better than my 2009 Tundra 5.7L at higher speeds. The Tundra would WASTE the F150 to about 70 (due to 4.30 rear and faster reving), but the F150 seems to just KILL the Tundra from 70 on out. It just never stop pulling - ever....

I have a 2011 eco with 46k lifetime mpg 20.4 Only problem spark gap was off regaped. Love the eco fast and great pulling power.
