Default 10 Ply on a 1/2 ton???

Installed 275 70 18 Nokian Vativas on a 2006 F150 4X4 FX4 extra cab.... Shop has rebalanced 2 times due to vibration and now says the 10 Ply is too much tire for the 1/2 ton truck. Any one else out there running 18" 10 ply? Any issues/ what brand? Any other options for a larger than stock size without going 10 ply?

10 ply are really for HD but I have 10 ply on my 2003 F150 and haven't had any issues other than a little vibration from being mud tires.

Reason I have 10 ply is because I got them super cheap.

I have 10ply on my f-150 and love em. I'm on my 3rd set of 10plys with this truck and loved them all so sounds to me they are jerking you around.

X2 to above. I don't hardly think the spin balancer knows or cares about what truck the tire is mounted on. Perhaps their balance is out of whack or its the jerk doing the balancing.

Haha thats a good point, how the heck would the tire balancer know what truck the wheel went to, lol! And if they are trying to say that they make the truck shake when driving because they are 10plys on a 1/2 ton I would have to ask how the tire would magically not vibrate the 3/4 ton.. Go back and give them hell cause they are just screwing you.

Also I had 285 75 18 toyo mud terrains on my truck for 2 years, they were 10ply and weighed 75lbs a piece and stood 35" high all I had was a leveling kit. I never had any issues.

Most light truck tires are 8 or 10 ply and common on many truck's on this site. I've been running 8 and 10 ply tires for year's with no problem's. They do ride rougher then the factory P rated tires but are tougher on construction site's and usually last longer if you use your truck for towing or hauling heavy load's.

Just put Goodyear Wrangler AT/s LT 275 65 R18 on my 2007 F-150 xlt. havent had a problem with them yet. As for what you need a 10 ply for... sorry, but if your F-150 is ever used as a TRUCK, the 4 ply tires (which are OEM standard) wear out too fast.
