E85 or regular Unleaded gas?
My truck is flex fuel and I was wondering if you can mix the two and which one is the best to use
|
My understanding is that its no problem to mix, I cant see them putting something on the market that you would have to stay with one or the other period, wouldnt be very flex'able...In GA you cant get straight unleaded, only E10 for example, thats a mix of eth and lead itself.
As to pro's and cons? basicly you get less MPG the more Eth you have in it, but then Eth is generally cheaper. I guess you just need to see how many miles you get on a tank of each and figure out if the price difference makes it worth it. I had a buddy with a Tahoe who tried both and he got such bad MPG that it wasnt near worth it, and another in a car that swears he saves .10-.15 cents a gallon using Eth over lead when the figures are all out. Ive heard the Eth gives more HP but its argued ither way on that so I dont know how strong that fact is in practice. If a few extra pennies are worth being more environmentally sound...then go with the Eth. |
Ethenol is extreamly bad for a motor making motor life limited. Cheaper isnt always better

If Ethanol was just a stepping stone to biobutonal I wouldnt mind it .... but E85 is fing retarded.

E85 is **** unless you want to go faster. Less efficient, makes food prices go up, costs more when decreased economy is taken into account.

I used E85 in my Chevy Impala company car and the mileage was so bad it did not offset the savings. I saw no benefit to keep using it.

Thanks guys that helps a lot I will have to try the combinations out and see what works best for my truck.

If you don't go through a full tank often, keep in mind that ethanol is much more hygroscopic.
