Default Door ajar switch

Hi all,

I have a tonnopro and I'm tired of the tailgate falling open and loosing stuff.

I've looked for the door ajar switch but can't find it on my 97 F150 2 door.

Anybody know where the switch is or where in the harness I can tie the tailgate to?

Thanks!

That switch is inside the door latch itself, pull the door panel either side you will see it on the bottom of the latch and 2 wires going into it.

I'd fix whatever is allowing the tailgate to drop.

Chickenwire, It's my 16 year old. Tonnopro also doesn't let you check the gate

Rnlcomp, is what i am asking easy to accomplish or do I need another alternative?

I figured you were going to mount a switch of some sort to the tailgate then tap it into the door warning so you would know it was down. A good switch to use would be like the hood switch on the newer trucks like mine, it's a normally open switch so when the hood opens, it closes contacts.

Personally I would just make sure the t gate is closed before I climbed in. Yours not have a key lock? I don't remember what year they started using the ign key lock cylinder for the gate.

The tailgates are easier to repair than adding a switch. Sounds like you need a handle, or possibly cleaning the locks and oiling them.

Doesn't appear to be a repair problem - gg said it's his 16 year old (apparently not closing the tailgate or not closing it completely.)

And those of us who've had 16 year olds know the only way to fix them is to wait for them to become 22 year olds.

If you don't kill them before then.

Yeah. Never have a problem when i close it. Last time i was leaving home and noticed some trash with a wire coming out, it was the $160 ac compressor i had borrowed from autozone that shot out because he left the gate loose.

Been lucky so far but my luck is running out.

Unless you put their cherished bike in the back and it falls out and they don't get a new one. They'll learn faster...
