Default Step Bar Opinions Please

A couple of weeks ago I purchased my first truck, a 2005 F150 STX. In advance, I apologize for my ignorance but I don’t even know if it’s an extended cab or a regular cab. It has two small back doors that offer access to an open space behind the seats, where there is no additional seating. Extended or regular cab??? I tried uploading a photo but, for some reason, was unable to do so.

I’m interested in adding some step bars but not sure what to get, i.e. what size, design, look is best suited for that particular truck? The truck is a light silver color, black wall tires, chrome wheels. It will be used as my daily vehicle and used for very light hauling, such as bales of pine straw, etc. I assume the basic step bars will cover the length of both doors. Is it realistic to consider bars that will extend all the way back to the front of the rear wheel well, allowing easier access to reach inside the bed? Although I’m 6 feet tall, it’s hard to reach into the bed.

I absolutely love this truck. It’s without frills, such as power windows, door locks, etc. Speaking of that, I’m probably interested in getting an aftermarket remote door lock system. If someone has a recommendation on a good one, I would appreciate that as well.

Reg cab. I don't know why Ford began putting those mini doors in there but they did in the 04-08 series. I will say though it helps make the reg cabs look not as funky from all the curves and then a straight back line as a 97-03 reg cab. There are tons of options for nerf bars and what not. Tube style is one of the most common and you can find ones that go all the way back. Some of the bumper companies here in Texas used to have some HD steps/running boards that ran back how you'd like, but my understating was they were a little pricey. Very wide however when compared to factory running boards. Never was a fan of nerfs unless they were purpose built as rock rails first (haven't seen any for trucks like that though) because I've had a few friends crush theirs off highway and discovered it kept them from opening doors or didn't protect the body at all.

Thanks for the input and info Zap. I'm glad to know that it's really a reg cab.
