I'm not sure that group would agree with you.

It's just plain stupid.

Lots of people tune their motors whether it's gas or diesel. Generally, if you put a tune on a diesel, you'll get a lot more power and most likely crank out a lot of black smoke because the injectors are now dumping out a lot of fuel. Some people just love tunes. I do agree dumping black smoke on someone is just being an idiot (unless that asshat deserved it). And based from what I've seen, a Cummins has the thickest, blackest smoke compared to a duramax or powerstroke. And most tuned diesels I've seen were mostly a Cummins, then Powerstroke, and then Duramax.

My last Power Stroke, had a wicked wheel turbo, 4" downpipe tied to a 5"straight pipe, aftermarket injectors and HPOP, and a homemade intake, with a tune. No belching black crap. I know a guy that's putting 650 HP on the ground in a Pete with a Cummins, he's more or less typical of heavyhaul Owner/Operators up here, no black smoke. Just two examples off the top of my head, we've got a lot of big horsepower trucks up here, And the only time I've seen any smoke was when a turbo goes, then you do have a mess.
I can understand a slight brown haze, but the black most of the time is intentional, and that just isn't acceptable.
Oh yeah on the Cummins in a little truck, it always seems those guys have to prove themselves. It's a good engine for sure, I just don't understand why so many of them insist on being obnoxious.

Neither of those things are needed for anything. The stacks through the bed look horrible, but not as horrible as some of the 8"-10" exhaust tips on the factory pipes I've seen around town here.

And the "rolling coal" business is just stupid. When I see that, two things come to mind: 1 - idiot; 2 - piece of **** truck.

That truck doesn't even sound cammed. It sounds like the engine is about to fall out of the front end or they're about to throw a rod out of the block.

I've seen ghost cam tunes on mustangs, and it's just stupid. It's a poser thing to do. The tune actually comes with a disclaimer that it is for show only and you're not supposed to drive the car on that tune, lol. They are popular with the 2015+ mustangs because you cant get a lopey cam sound from actually changing the cams. Some people just have more money than sense.

You could pull it off if you're in a group of wannabes, but a lot of us can definitely tell the difference.

That's supposed to sound like a big cam?

Sounds like ***.

I was putting 675 HP to the ground out of my 1693 Cat in my 1975 Pete back in the 80's It would Roll Coal if I wanted, but them stacks were a bitch to clean so we didn't. The old Cats were famous for their smoke, one of the reasons they don't make truck engines anymore since they were going to have to do to much to meet emissions.
Most of the older trucks you see smoking like that have the Aneroid valve disconnected or blocked off to get instant fuel instead of waiting for the Turbo to spool up. I know my buddies truck is putting 750, but that is computer HP and they can still get it to burn clean.

Oh yeah, back in the last century, black smoke was pretty common. Now a days though, is totally different.
That's exactly why Cat quit making on road diesels, it's too bad, many of us really liked the Cats, especially the old 3406. We had one in a 1999 T8, that thing would out work the C15 I had at that time, and mine was 500HP, and that was only 475.
My last truck was a 560 Detroit, it worked, but still wasn't a Cat, and you never saw any smoke at all out of it. Of course it had DEF and all that other crap on it. Ya, most of the guys I know with big power is all computer as well, sorta like us with these baby trucks
