dodge 3/4 ton pulls less than f150? WTF
i almost choked as i read the September 2011 issue of four wheeler (page 20) when they said that the dodge 3/4 ton power wagon could only pull 10,100! hell its less than a f150 properly equipped would pull 11,300.
so whats your guys thoughts on this?
its not hard to see why dodge is so low on the consumer polls

Its all about the chassis and suspension setup. The Power Wagon is Dodge's off road baby, built for offroad use not for towing... Kinda like Ford's Raptor (even though the Raptor is on a whole different level).

The Power Wagon has the honor of being the longest running truck series on the market however not continuous as that is still held by the F-series. Power Wagon was the nickname given to the W series trucks in WW2 by the soliders. Dodge introduced the Civilian W series badged the Power Wagon in 48. Gasoline I6 engine (225 ci or so) that would pull 25K lbs and had a 94:1 low gear ratio with a fully synchronized tranny and hydraulic clutch (about 50 years ahead of Ford there). 4WD was standard and in the mid 50's the engine was upgraded to a 231 I6. Set up for front, rear, and mid PTO accessories. It wasn't until the mid 60's that the W series began to receive V8's. For roughly 15 years there was no Power Wagon trucks until the debut of the 03 body style.
superccs, Dodges actually do pretty good when it comes to fuel mileage. My grandfathers 02 Ram 1500 got 21 mpg with the 5.7 Hemi. His 2011 gets about 20 mpg. My father's 2000 4WD Dakota got 19 mpg with the Magnum engine. My father's stock 06 Ram 2500 gets 29 mpg...but that has a I6 5.9 in it. Most my friends with late model 5.9/6.7 Ram 2500's get 26 mpg stock. In my experience, Ford has only recently got close with the EB engines. I only get 15.5 mpg in my 02 V6.

I second that! Growing up as a kid and even my last three trucks have been Dodge Ram 1500 with both the 5.9l gas and the Hemi. My gas mileage was not any worse the my F150 now. As the matter of fact the gas mileage you stated is in line with what I was getting in my Dodge trucks. Dodge has come along way and there trucks are awesome to bad it's now owned by Fiat! I love my F150 though!

Don't get me wrong, I still love the Cummins motors to death. But due to all of the new EPA emissions requirements and the fact that you void the warranties now if you remove it I don't see buying a new truck (diesel strictly) for a long time. But why buy a new 1/2 ton when I can save a bit of money and get a used 3/4 ton diesel that's just getting broke in and makes way better mileage?

My Dad just bought a Ram 1500 that can only tow 3700 lbs. Doesn't make anyone her feel better? His truck is interesting in the fact a whole normal sized person could stand/sit between the engine and radiator.

No, this will make your dad feel better, my 02 F150 won't even pull that. But you cant access anything in my engine bay unless you take body parts apart.
