Here I was expecting to see "depends on the price!!" I will hunt for the best price..... normally Costco or Sam's Club on my interstate travels and if I get caught between stations I'll put in the appropriate amount to get me to one.

I use gas rewards from our local grocery store (Giant Eagle) and they're good for up to 30 gallons. So yeah, I let mine go to almost empty and fill 'er up. The 36 gallon gas tank option was a must for me when I purchased. I've gotten close to 800 miles on a tank on a couple of occasions.

What's the point of having a 36 gal tank if you're not going to fill it up, save yourself the hassle of stopping more often.

I always fill up. But I rarely wait till it needs more than 30 gallons. For normal daily driving I top it off once a week, usually only about 1/2 tank. But if on a road trip I'll stop at the 1st place I come to where gas is at a good price and it is an easy in/out situation once I've used 25-30 gallons. I don't view the big tank as an excuse to drive 700 miles on a fill up. But as a way to buy gas when I want to, at prices I want to pay, rather than when I have to, at whatever the prices are at the time.

Don't worry about the extra weight. The extra 10-12 gallons in the big tank only weighs about 60-70 lbs more than in a smaller standard tank would weigh when full.

Simply plan your trip on GasBuddy. Just drove 2,000+ miles and filled where it was most economical.

Left Michigan with partial tank, filled in Ohio before PA line. Visited Washington, filled in Virginia on way to South Carolina. Filled in South Carolina, filled again before leaving, filled again at SC border, ...

I don't have the 36g tank, never thought I'd need anything more than the 26 as I rarely drive much but from home to work a whopping 1.5 miles, but now that I found a place to tank up with E85 I wish I did cause it's over an hour away. So what I did yesterday and will likely be doing once every 2 months or so is head back up with 5-5g cans. Was only $103 and change for 45g of that wonderful go fast juice.

Often I put about 20 gallons in it just because that itself takes what seems like almost 10 minutes.
Who's watching the pump when you go inside?

Like you, when I found out that you could get a 36-gal tank, I had to have it. I can't even imagine going back to a paltry 23-gal tank. IMO, Ford should just make ALL F-150s with the 36-gal tank. Yeah, yeah...I know, then they wouldn't be able to charge the $395 for the upgrade to the larger tank....but they should just incorporate it into the overall sticker price. Who would not want the bigger tank? Seems like a no brainer.

And yes, I do fill mine all the way up, every time, and rarely let it go below 1/4 tank.

Fill as needed with grocery store reward money which ends at 15 gallons and has a time limit. Otherwise fill to the top as road trips dictate.

X3 I fill up at half too. I think my obsession started when the trucks had two tanks. Use one, fill it up, then use the other, and fill it up. Since I only have one now I fill it at half knowing I could go another week if I had too.
