i test drove a lariat with the tow package and integrated trailer brake controller and i liked the way it looked. function i couldnt say anything about cause it was just a test drive. im not sure it would work well for my uses as a farm truck though.

also my 1995 has the tow package and a 7 pin connector but no brake controller (stock that is) but i dont think it was an option back then either

Thanks again for the advice. I expect to be towing about 4300 lbs so I'll definitely get the TBC (original or after-market). Do you guys have any thoughts about surge vs. electric brakes?

Electric, electric, electric....All the way.
Get a controller that is "proportional". They are easily adjustable for load, trailer type and brake force.

this is the type of controller that i have and i towed my 30' travel trailer that weights in at 45oo pounds had no problems stoping i have the towing package and my 150 pulled just fine i never had any problems going up bridges i have the 5.4 i love my truck good luck
