Default Do Deer avoidance whistles work?

I am not sure the cheap plastic ones work well enough-I read you have to be over 50mph to make them semi-work.

Ran across these electic ones "the Hornet"

has anyone used these?

The best thing would be a heavy duty bumper but thats not a option right now Thanks het

When I was a kid I broke them off my Grandmothers station wagon and two days later she hit a deer... Coincidence? I think not!

My dad hit his first deer the day after he put some on his new 93 truck.

I live north of San Antonio, in the hill country and we have lots of deer here, a whole lot. I have always had deer whistles on my vehicles, and have never had a deer run in front of my vehicle. Since they hear you coming they usually look before leaping, so normally they stand on the side of the road looking at my truck, versus crossing the road. So it reduces your chance of a deer impact.

In short, yes, they work at letting the deer know you are coming.

No they won't stop a deer from jumping out in the road, but it reduces the chance they will.

So you know they work because you have never hit a deer when using them?

We have a lot of deer here too and I have never hit a deer without them so I come to the conclusion they must attract deer instead of repelling them.

Seriously if they worked chances are your insurance company would give you a discount for having them, like an alarm, abs, air bags, etc.
