The Hall effect sensor reads returning current to the ground lug of the battery. Changing the system by pulling that connector interferes with that. It's the same reason Ford provided a grounding lug on the passenger fender well, that passes through the sensor before returning to the ground lug, because you aren't supposed to bypass the sensor by grounding aftermarket stuff direct to the battery negative terminal.

Basically, the BMS monitors the charging system on both ends, both generated voltage from the alternator, and returning voltage at the sensor. Changing any of those things messes with the BMS system.

Now whether any of that amounts to any real issues is a whole other discussion, I was just stating that as far as I know, the only way to permanently, without any trade off, disable the auto start is with the eliminator, because it simply acts on the switch.

Hmmm... So if that is unplugged, the sensor cannot tell you if the alternator and or battery is charging or not charging correctly?

I have no idea exactly what effect that has, but it is changing the return signal to the battery that the sensor reads. Lots of guys do what you did, as well as changing it with Forscan with no obvious ill affect.

Again, I was just pointing out that there is a side effect. Now whether it is a big deal or not, and what the long term impact may be, the jury is still out on that.

Got it.... Well,,, I think I will keep it as is since the service guy and the tech both said all the guys working there with trucks have pulled the plug. They were both emphatic that it will not disable or affect anything. I am on month 4 and see no changes. They both did say that from what they understand on the 20's or 21's you will not be able to shut it off. There will be no off switch. It will just be on permanently. I hate it because in my job I drive around subdivisions taking photos of homes. I stop from 12 to 20 times per trip to do that. Thanks for the info.

Which begs the ??? even harder. How lazy are people that will spend a lot of money on a gadget to stop it from working when all they hafta do is hit the button ? It would be part of my routine, like fastening the seat belt or adjusting the climate control or turning up the music or whatever you do when you first start the truck.

If you catch a sale it's like $79, regular price I think is still $99. I paid $99 for mine, and I think it was completely worth it.

And lazy has not a damn thing to do with it. It's an annoying "feature" of a truck I paid a lot of money for, that I had no option to not have included from the factory. I don't use it, don't want it, and don't want to mess with turning it off every time I get in the truck. So I did what I wanted to to turn it off.

"Stop liking what I don't like" seems to apply here.

Sorry, but the old adage, "A fool and his money are soon parted" applies here.

Everybody gets to choose how to spend their money, and everybody that buys one of these knows exactly what they are getting and why.

Plenty of people spend money on things that others would not, including things you spend money on that others would consider foolish.

Maybe it's just because I'm old and stupid, but I kept forgetting to disable the thing until the truck stalled the first time. Then I'd remember to shut it off.

I paid too much money to not be completely happy with the way my truck operates. I disabled mine via FORScan, but would have paid money for the eliminator is that was the only alternative.
