I would imagine they would be forced to market it around $4500 like the Ram/Jeep does.

BTW, on an F-250 the diesel costs:
6.7L 4 Valve Power StrokeŽ V8 Diesel Engine $8,480

Diesel stinks, costs more at the pump, and is expensive as hell to repair (think Powerstroke). Ford paid me a lot of $$$ to repair those PS engines under warranty, the electronics involved in todays diesels is just as complex as a gas burner and requires even more special tools.
Need one to make money with? Go for it, you'll be able to deduct expenses, have $$$ falling out the rear and pull a 30' bay runner?, it's what you want.
Don't trust the article when they can't even get the year model right.... "Ford made some pretty decisive moves with the development of its 2014 F-150 pickup, touting its aluminum construction"

Since, on average, diesel costs more than gasoline, if you got 25% better mileage with a diesel, how many miles would you have to drive to make up that $4500 and break even?

Diesel is worth it for a guy who puts 25K a year on a truck and wants to keep it 8-10 years. Otherwise, gas trucks are a better choice.

much like how the ecoboost costs more. So it was more like $2000 additional costs. In two years of owning it we've put 40K miles on it, so it gets a lot of miles.
People should realize that it takes a lot of miles on the truck to make up for the higher price of diesel fuel itself, the extra cost of the engine, the cost of the DEF fluid, the much higher regular service costs etc.
If you can live with numbers like these, go for it. Pickup trucks don't have to be speed demons, nothing wrong with being slow and economical.
- HORSEPOWER 240
- TORQUE 420LB-FT
- TOWING 9,210LBS+
- PAYLOAD 1,600LBS+

Why does something have to be "right" for people why can't people get what they "want" and not be so criticised?
Id be in for the mileage alone (if its close to the ram)

But if you want a diesel because you like the idea of owning one, carry on.
