Thumbs down Did Ford Even Test Their Backup Cameras?

I absolutely love my 2015 F150. Very comfortable ride. A bit fun to drive even... But living in the Pacific Northwest means that we get rain. You know that wet stuff that falls from the sky?

It seems to me that Ford didn't even bother to test their install location for the backup camera. Anytime there is water on the road, my camera becomes useless. I owned a 2013 Subaru Legacy prior to the truck and never touched the lens for the backup camera in my three years of ownership, yet on my ford I have to do it nearly every time I start her up.

It'd seem to me that this is a major design flaw and something that Ford needs to address. Anyone solve this problem?

Most people wipe it off regularly. I agree it's a poor design.

Same thing in South Louisiana where rain must have been invented! Bad design to have to wipe your backup camera more then your ***!

Unless they have automatic tear aways on them I don't see them staying clean. My camera on my 13 F150 got dirty, my dad's on his 12 F250 got dirty, and mine on my 16 F250 gets dirty. Sounds like something pretty minor to complain about. What part of the exterior of your pickup stays clean? You're asking the impossible.

Hell even if the camera fails completely you have backup sensors. You can just blindly back up until you hear some beeping. They're nearly idiot proof. "Nearly" being the key word.

True. It seems they go off too soon for my taste, but I guess they do help those of us who aren't as adept at using mirrors up.

Even then there are always some kid or pedestrian coming on thru as soon as I go into reverse. Of course I learned to wait a sec or two before moving in reverse because I swear people are waiting for me to leave just to jump behind me! Thought about adding a friggin reverse chimer...lol.

As for reverse camera, never had much problem with it but I do not live in snow or places with more crappy weather. I wonder if front cameras have more clarity issues? I can assume so.
