anyway if insurance is not an option, maybe a salvage yard could get a gate cheap? Also Not ideal unless you could use it? they have topper shells where you remove the gate and the topper puts a door or hatch in its place?

oh, if ya get it painted just find a good shop! I had the whole back the truck repainted. 1st shop did a horrid job, since they were state farm preferred shop, state farm let me pick another shop at no cost... that one turned out mint.

I've had good luck with Craigslist but selling just a tailgate might be suspicious. Especially if you have to meet behind the 7-Eleven at midnight.

there are a few companies locally that do work truck conversions. Buyer beware, but there are frequently legitimate deals to be found.

Or you can just choose to look at everything as a cynic. That's okay too

Not a fair assumption because that's a major city. Majority of the country doesn't have the near the amount of CL postings.

Yeah, there is a conversion company near me in the Baltimore area that always has new take off tailgates for sale on CL but 90% of the time, they are the standard fleet sales white color one. $400 seems to be what they get for them also.
