Default Decisions- please advise!

Hello all! I'm currently looking for a v8 F150. Two options that I like from different dealers have presented themselves to me and now I'm in a dilemma and not sure which is the best choice. The first truck is a 2018 XLT demo model with 2800 miles. The other is a 2016 King Ranch, one owner, with 9600 miles. Both are FX4 models and both are being offered for around $48,500. The 2018 XLT has the new transmission. The King Ranch is super loaded. Which would make the most financial sense if I plan on keeping the truck 5 years or so? I really like the King Ranch but don't know if I should put my money into the newer truck with less bells and whistles.

Tough decision.
I'd get the warranty/maintenance records of both before making a decision.
Make sure the King wasn't a flood victim.

IMO, a 2018 with that high 2800 miles and a 2016 with only 9600 miles seems a little on the suspicious side to me.

Does the XLT have the 302 trim package and any other options added?
The King is a far better truck than a XLT but its 2 years old.

Details missing. Can you post the options or the window stickers? How about the interest rates on the 2? Similar or different?

As a rule of thumb, it's always better go buy the most recent one, but there is a HUGE gap between the XLT and the King Ranch...

If you're looking for options / prestige, go with the King Ranch. If you're looking for a newer model, go with the XLT, but know that they are 2 different trucks.

Also, 48.5K is a lot for a XLT, especially a demo. It's probably fully loaded, but did you check other dealerships to compare the prices?

Great points and things to consider. The King Ranch was owned by one of the dealership's managers. He only used it to drive from home to work, at least that's the salesman told me. It was in super clean condition. It also had the leveling kit and aftermarket off road tires that were in great condition. Also has the spray in bed liner, and retractable steps. The 2018 XLT was being driven by one of the dealers. It had on dealer plates. It was the only V8 on the lot with a 36 gallon tank, which is something that I was looking for. It had a drop in bed liner, and the center console shifter. The mileage did seem high. Similar 2018 trucks were all going for $51-54K. Interest rate for the King Ranch was about 4.9% and I'm assuming that the rate would be the same for the 2018.

Price seems high for an XLT. My Lariat was $45 plus all the bs taxes and fees. Yes that was 2 years ago but I also saw a new one last week for just a couple thousand more.

I'd be all over the KR. The new transmission just isn't enough of a selling point for me. The KR should be very well appointed and those are what you will see, feel and enjoy over time. Unless the XLT is optioned to the moon, the miles and tranny won't make up the difference. I purchased a 2015 Lariat with 48K and you wouldn't know it from driving it. Wife has taken it over due to all the creature comforts.

That's a TON of money for an XLT... IMO that's also to much money for any used truck regardless of model.

That's what I'm thinking too.

But between those 2 trucks, I've always been a person that prefers to get something a couple years older so I can get something nicer.

And if you have good credit don't accept that 4.9% from the dealer. When I bought my truck last year I showed up with a pre-approved blank check from PNC for 2.7% and the dealer actually matched my rate to keep the financing. Looks like their rates are slightly higher right now, but still nowhere near 4.9%

I with you on that. Just bought ours and got it for 1/2 the price it was on the lot new. The bonus is that Ford put a new truck warranty on it because it was Ford Certified. Yea...it had 40K miles on it.....but I consider that just broke in and Ford must be confident with it because of their warranty.
