I drive a route for a living. Having a dashcam (for me) is a necessity.

For those that have them, is it worth it to spend a little more to get a dual camera system to get a rear view camera in the system?

I'm looking at the VIOFO A129 dual camera system, or the AUKEY DR02 Dual cameras to get rear view coverage. Could spend half as much and get a single front camera if I wanted to though.

I'm leaning towards the dual, because I nearly get rear ended frequently. I can also see value in having the parking mode of the A129 to catch parking lock incidents.

I plan to get one after realizing how useless actual Human Witnesses are regarding an accident. A guy in my Industry recently killed himself by jumping in front of a Semi on the highway. The Semi had a dash cam but without it the Driver would’ve likely been sued, ticketed, or maybe even charged for something that was not his fault.

I've been a witness to 3 accidents, and I can say that as a witness, it isn't the easiest thing to remember what happened by the time you actually get pulled back in. Both times I was called to provide statements, it was 3-4 months after the incident had happened. The first time, I was unprepared for the level of detail I was being asked to provide, and found that I couldn't remember all the minute details as well as I thought I could.

The 2nd time it happened, I sat down immediately once I got to where I was going and wrote down what I saw and what I experienced so that I was better prepared when the calls would start coming. Even then, there were specific elements and questions that I didn't write down, and didn't directly observe that seemed to be hit points within the discussion.

I just wanted to reply and say that it can be hard being on the witness side of these events.

Ive been looking for one but dam theres so many different types Im not sure where to start.

Given how many cameras I have on my truck from factory with all the options it would be nice if ford just incorporated some of them into a recording type system with a removable SD card.

Im in the me boat.

I want one for the front.
I want it to be hardwired or at least be able to hide the wires.
I want it to record when the vehicles off, at least for a short time.

I can't tell you how many times I've almost been in an accident and nobody would have believed it wasn't my fault. That's why I have one I just installed one in both cars last weekend, I went with the Thinkware F70 because the brand has many great reviews and are typically pretty pricy. The F70 was very reasonably priced and has the option for a GPS antenna and expandable rear camera. The camera itself is a simple no frills camera that is low profile and easily tucks behind my rear view mirror. During install I noticed my power port didn't shut off when I turned my truck off, so I located a switched circuit in my fuse box and tapped into that with an add a tap fuse and wired it in to the camera. I'm really glad I have the video if I ever need it. It's cheap insurance to back me up with evidence because now a days video proof is everything and removes so much doubt.

I got them just after I totalled my '94 CV hitting a woman who pulled out in front of me illegally. Fortunately, it was so obvious that the cops could see it, and my insurance didn't even make me pay the deductible. And that was just a week after another woman sideswiped my Bronco - also obviously her fault and no damage to me. So I feel better having them, but I can't say they're "worth it" because I didn't need them anyway.

But they're good enough that I could use them if I needed to, and small enough to be unobtrusive, and cheap enough to buy a couple (I got them on sale for ~$53ea - microSD cards not included); so I recommend that model. Read the reviews.
I bougth one of those adn it lasted a few months, not the replacement is dead.................

I have had this one for about 2 months now. Got it when it was on sale for $75. It's a well know brand and has excellent reviews. Bought the hard-wire kit as well. Stays on for a set-able amount of time after the vehicle is shut off. Has a G sensor that will start recording if your vehicle is hit while off and parked. I checked the footage a few days after I set it up, it worked and looked good, put the card back in, and haven't touched it sense.. I have it mounted behind my rear-view with the display turned off, so you pretty much can't see it from in the truck. It makes an audible sound when it turns on (a second or two after I start the truck) and every once in a while I look to see the red recording light is on. Other than that, It's been "set it and forget it" Hope to never need it, but it does have a simple one press to lock a video shall I ever need it.

Bought it because the week before I had a crash right in front of me, had I been going 5mph faster, it would have been me! Got on Amazon, did some research, added a few different ones to my wish list, a few days later, my Honey app told me this one was on sale, so I bought it. Nice little insurance / peace of mind to have.

I'm no pro, but I'd be happy to answer any other questions you guys may have about it/them.

Three months after I bought it, some idiot made the attempt to destroy my Pacifica. Good thing I could get around them.
Installed one in my truck purchased 3/5.
Got the AUKEY from Amazon.
