I would wait a week (to just get a refresh), then go test drive a Ram and Chev/GM, then test the 5.0 again and see how you like them all then. Those three would be more 'similar' engines, all NA V8's and get a feel for the difference between them.

I have driven my mother's Ram with the hemi and in honestly I like how they drive, it just doesn't have the payload I need. Chev/GM to me I would need the 6.2 V8 and I cant see me paying that much lol
One of my friends owns the GM dealer here and I still drive a Ford.

Meh, I'll take it over being an attention seeker that thrives on arguing. Good luck in finding whatever vehicle fits you.

Steve - I don't see where my original post asked anyone for an argument....so, I think it is guys like YOU that are looking for some sort of testosterone infused attention by reading through threads you claim you have no interest in and then flaming the OP....and then returning for more. You can just as easily refrain from stiring the pot. The same doors are open to you. Your choice. 😉

As others have stated, buy the 5.0, put some Bilstein 5100's at all 4 corners and go enjoy it. Good luck.

I'm on my 3rd new F150 in 8 years and have been extremely happy with each one and not a single serious complaint with any of them.

A 2010 XLT with a 5.4, a 2013 Lariat with 3.5, and my current truck is a brand new '18 Lariat with the 5.0 and it's definitely the best of the bunch, the motor is very strong & fast, the transmission shifts as smooth as butter, the ride is very comfortable and the truck is so quiet I almost don't hear the motor sometimes.

Can't comment on other brands as the last Chevy pick-up I drove was my Dad's 1961 regular cab & long box and I've only ever ridden in a Ram a couple times and have never driven one.

Hope some day you find a truck that makes you happy but it seems all you want is to find fault with everything you look at.

Good luck in your search.
Thank you - I am going to give it one more shot with a longer drive of a 5.0 tomorrow. I am probably more critical than most.... and I havent had a truck since about 2007.... I had back to back Chevy Silverado Z71's..... a new extended cab in 2002 and then a new Crew Cab in 2004. Sold the Crew Cab in 2007 if memory serves....

Earl - your vehicle is equipped much like I had built out on Ford's site.... Magnetic.... 5.0 or 3.5.... 502A Lariat.... Chrome package, but $300 upgrade to convert the contents of that to a color matched 'sport' package...but I stayed with the 18" wheels, then added the tow package and the tailgate step..... with the 3.5 it ended up msrp'ing at just a whisker under 57k wow! But it would have been nice. If I drive the 5.0 and change my view on the ride somehow.... that engine choice will drop the price another $600, I believe.

I do like the idea of the aluminum body in terms of not worrying about rust.... especially living in salt capital of the world, Michigan.

Glad you know everything about my life and the circumstances behind my vehicle choices....

What you don't know is that I decided to wait a while and see how the new Aluminum body fared, etc

My wife and I bought a new Jeep Wrangler Big Bear Edition with all the bells and whistles instead just last summer instead of doing the truck route. We liked it enough and decided to keep it for our 'fun' vehicle.

One play toy vehicle which we went into for a ride made for rough terrain is enough... so that is why I am looking for a more 'civilized' ride for our new edition. Thanks for your constructive contribution. Much appreciated.

Not looking for a Cadillac equivalent ride, but if you created Frankensteins' monster and combined the interior quality and layout of the 2019 RAM - along with the vastly superior ride quality of the RAM.....with the body of the Ford and it's 5.0 V8.... then that would be a winning combo. I was probably too extreme in my description of the 5.0..... again, if the ride quality would have been better, I probably would have lived with everything else and went with the V8. True, there will always be shortcomings.... because everyone has different ideals of what is important to them.

People are quick to choose sides based upon what they own, without reviewing the alternatives. I couldn't buy the RAM for the reasons in my original post above..... but I am objective enough - - along with having actually having test driven both brands.... to say that RAM is far ahead of ALL the other manufacturers in interior quality and ride in their 2019 redo. You won't read one professional review that doesn't have the reviewer stating this as a fact. Ford, GM, Toyota, and Nissan could all (and no doubt are scrambling) learn some lessons about interior materials quality and layout from the 2019 RAM. Again, I couldn't own a RAM because of their engine issues.... but the ride and interior is top notch.
Joe, you are a man of many words, words that are somewhat contradictory.

I paraphrase:
Don't want to floor it from stop sign to stop sign.
But want a fast truck.
Want linear acceleration, the eco is too quirky, the 5.0 is a gutless beached whale. What the heck do you really want?
Far as the eco engine, ever hear of not flooring it from stop sign to stop sign? Oh i see, you said you don't do that!

Want a cushy ride but for some reason stuck on buying a truck.
You may not realize this, but from everything i've read and reading between the lines, i've come to the conclusion you're in denial, you are indeed looking for a Cadillac ride.
Ain't gonna find a true equivalent Caddy ride in any brand of truck.

Do you really need a truck when a luxury SUV might be better suited?
I myself really don't get the cushy ride as a important characteristic especially when it come to trucks.

I've seen the interiors of RAMs. IMO nothing there leap years ahead of upper trim F150s.

There have been many replies here with various options available to you.
Yet you seem to keep egging this thread on.
At some point, just buy a vehicle, any vehicle and be done with it.

If its gonna be a Ford, i can just about guarantee we're gonna hear a lot of moaning and complaining in your future threads.
If its gonna be another brand, the members in those other brand forums will hear a lot of moaning and complaining.

You are probably right on some points... don't expect a 'cushy' ride... but was hoping.... hoping.... for a relatively civilized ride as this will be replacing my vehicle as a 'daily' driver. Maybe I am expecting too much from a truck.

This is why I'm hoping Joe buys a Ram

3 + years... You might want to wait another 3 years, that V8 is all new for '18.

Fixed it for you.

I already feel sorry for the salesman, the service dept., the dealer in general
