3 + years... You might want to wait another 3 years, that V8 is all new for '18.

Fixed it for you.

I already feel sorry for the salesman, the service dept., the dealer in general
Hey thanks... must feel good to be an internet bully.... your parents must be proud. You probably make fun of disabled people for kicks, too, huh?

I'm now pretty convinced that trolls don't have any mirrors in their house.

Be sure the 5.0 that you test drive has 3.55 rear gearing, not 3.31 which many dealers stock. The difference in performance may matter, probably more so with the new 10 speed tranny. If the OEM tires are not properly inflated, you'll feel handling issues. Those tires have soft sidewalls - I would try to upgrade at the dealer for LT tires if you get into the buying process. The electric steering takes some time to learn over hydraulic systems. That being said, I am very happy with my 2013 4x4 5.0. It gets better mileage than I thought possible with a V-8 4x4. And, at nearly 40,000 miles - it has been problem free. It also tows fine for my needs. It's at least as comfortable as any of the numerous trucks we have had over many years.

Please let this thread end. I posted a serious question many posts ago and OP ignored it entirely in favor of engaging in back and forth nonsense with other posters about who was raised right and cyber bullying. Honestly, OP, your thread was mostly absurd to begin with (the fasted regular F-150 ever made was a "beached whale" to you), but I gave it the benefit of the doubt and actually tried to help you by engaging in a conversation about how you could get the truck you want with some simple modifications, but you're clearly more interested in trying to show everyone your intellect and moral superiority. A simple re-read of this thread should be evidence enough of that. Let's end this. While not exactly analogous, you remind me of the jilted ex who just got dumped and then proclaims "well I didn't like you anyway! i was going to dump YOU!" Most people who don't like something, just sorta move along and find something they like better. They don't proclaim to a crowd of people who are all gathered to enjoy something to say to that crowd "Hey! What you're all gathered to enjoy! I hate it! See y'all later!" It's just kinda pathetic.

Sorry, with all the abuse, I somehow missed your post. Did not mean to ignore you - thanks for taking the high road and not piling-on. Appreciate you posting a friendly reminder. I will check it out.

True....poorly constructed post on my behalf in hindsight.

Thanks! I am going to give a 5.0 a more lengthy shot later today. I will make sure to ask for a 3.31 if he has one.....they have at least 4 or 5 on the lot.....I guess the window sticker will tell also.

Just my opinion but you are over thinking this. Buy what you like. The hemi tick! I’ve owned or currently own 5 late model hemis. Never heard the tick. Don’t let the internet scare you away from what you want.

With my user name of Dodgeman how did I end up with a Ford? It was the best truck in my opinion. I’m kind of picky about my vehicles and my last two started rusting out, one a Ram and the last a Chevy. I test drove a couple, liked it and getting roughly 10k off sticker had me in one in a couple of hours. The fact it shouldn’t rust out is a bonus.

Glad i'm not the only MOPAR guy here as can be seen by my user name 'moparado'.

I also looked at the RAM first when deciding to buy a new truck. Wasn't all that impressed.
Chevy's were out along with the rest of the rice burners. So it was between a RAM or a FORD.
Once i climbed into a Sport F150, no contest. The rest is history.

Spent some time driving a Supercrew 5.0 V8 again tonight - Just this vehicle without jumping from a 3.5 into the 5.0.

I would like to lay out my impressions, but first I would like to apologize to the good people of this forum, and those within this thread that I offended. If I could figure out how to go back and delete several posts - - and alter my original, I would... but it doesn't appear that I can.

It was a mistake to make my opening post of this thread in the tone I used. I am man enough to do a little self-reflection... and can say that I was wrong for not being sensitive to the people that obviously love their F150's. It was about as rude as telling someone that their sister is ugly...

I think I was disappointed because I was set to embark on my plan to begin negotiating a price on a very nicely outfitted Lariat SuperCrew with many bells and whistles and was sort of bummed that I wasn't as bowled over as I thought I would be. So, I did what many do behind a keyboard and shot my mouth off during an irrational moment and added insult to injury by battling the volley of insults that I should have expected to receive. Stupid of me. My sincerest apologies.... I am sure you are all very good people, and I wouldn't step into your home and act like that. I was completely out of line.... and handled this poorly.

Ok..... so, the 5.0 test drive in a nutshell:
  • Power was PLENTY potent.... and the growl of the engine with the peddle to the floor was intoxicating. It must have been the quick switch from the driving the 5.0 between the two turbo test drives last time that made me think the 5.0 wasn't 'quick'.... I think the contrast between the low end torque of the EB's accentuated that feeling. I did not think the 5.0 was slow in the least tonight.... and it put me back in my seat under hard acceleration.
  • I know these things are very subject to personal opinion, but I really liked the 5.0 experience ... and that would be my choice if I do move forward with this. Not to say the EB's are inferior - they are just different but obviously great in their own right for many reasons.
  • Ride Quality - Again.... I went a little overboard in the original post.... Today, I did not find it *all that bad*..... it handled bumps pretty well, but yeah - you can tell it is a truck and that is to be expected to a degree. I thought I could live with it after tonight's drive.
  • Steering - - I thought the steering was very 'quick' and responsive. I honestly don't know why Consumer Reports describes it as unwieldy. I thought it was precise and secure feeling. No complaints there.
  • Braking - - seemed adequate for a large vehicle... and let's face it; that IS a large vehicle.
  • Fit and finish - - I would call it pretty average. If a guy wanted to be really picky (who, me?) I might surmise that forming aluminum must be more difficult than steel (I think the aluminum post bears that out).... because if you sight down the side of the F150, there are definitely slight waves, impressions and ripples that you don't see in a competitive steel bodied truck finish. Again... I stress 'slight.' I don't think most people would pick up on this.... but being a Design guy, I tend to notice imperfections in finishes, etc. It's my hex. But, again - nothing that would stop me from signing on the dotted line.
  • Noise - - The interior itself was tomb quiet;... the vehicle I test drove today (new with about 17 miles on it when I left the lot) had an aggravating rattle in both the driver's door and the dash behind the gauge cluster somewhere. That would definitely cause me angst if I owned it.... but hopefully would be repairable. Other than that, no issues.
  • Comfort - - seats (I was in an STX with cloth seats) were very comfortable... maybe a little on the spongy side.... but they offered a soft ride which I appreciated.
  • Only other thing that I did not care for... and this will probably seem weird.... is the 'chime' when you open the door..... for some reason, that three tone chime really grated on me. I think I came across a thread where someone said that the chime can be silenced by using some sort of Forscan software? Anyway - not a huge deal I guess.
That about sums it up - - I thought it was a decent setup after all. I am going to drive a comparable GMC Sierra just to do 'due diligence'... and see if I like it better .... but I am not expecting that to be the case. I like that the Ford's 5.0 V8 doesn't employ *variable cylinder management* like the other mfg's use..... I will see and then decide what I am going to do from there.

Thanks again to those that are still brave enough to read another post from 'the troll'.... and again, I do apologize to those I offended. Wish I could have a re-do with this thread. Have a great night!

I really like your last post. Thank you. After a house, vehicles are probably the next biggest expenditure so it takes a lot of time and effort to get exactly what you want. Nothing wrong with being discerning. I know you have good intentions. I appreciate the detail and specifics, vs just yelling "this blows" and nobody knows why. You've provided specific examples which at least allows us to help address your concerns.

Like I'd mentioned earlier, you can modify to get a real cushy ride. 17 or 18" wheels with a simple swap of the front coil springs for a softer version with upgraded shocks front and rear will give you an amazingly cushy ride. To overuse the term, yes, mine "rides like a Cadillac". Speed bumps and potholes are nonexistent to me, let alone just bumps in the road. I built my truck that way. I'm sure people on here will help chime in with specifics for your particular truck. Thanks for your new post. I personally appreciate it.
