Default Coyote motor

When people speak of the Coyote engine, are they referring to 5.0 liter/302 cid engine? Does anyone know where the name came from ? Thanks.

Originally used on the Mustang GT. Yes, the Coyote is the 5.0. The origins of the name came from Ford.

Ford has named their engines for years; Windsor, Cleveland, Triton, Coyote.

The Coyote is the newer version of the 5.0L/302ci. IIRC, it has little in common with the pre-Triton 302ci

And by little, you mean nothing lol. The 5.0 is an advanced version of the 4.6/5.4. The old 5.0 is a pushrod windsor motor. I imagine they could have made it anything above or below a 5.0, but the marketability of the 5.0 name is strong. Just sucks to youtube 5.0 exhaust mustang now, since its now flooded with new mustangs, not the foxes and 94/95.....lol

The newer 5.0 for sure, but the pushrod 5.0 from years back would not be considered a coyote.

Yes, virtually nothing. lol.

The way I heard it, the marketing dept. ordered the engineering dept. to make it a 5.0L strictly for advertising.

Thank you for the replies everyone. I remember back in the mid 70's, if you had a Cleveland, it was a hotter motor than a Windsor. I think it was the 351.

Windsor was a bumped up 302
Cleveland was a big block...73/74 became the 351m400....the best truck motor...not a race motor....
