Damn... They must be on drugs or something. Normal for a 50k truck to make a grinding noise? 2 set of gears are grinding together.

Seems like it's a hit or miss thing... Mine is OK since warmer weather arrived, but it will most likely come back next winter.

Seems like it's a hit or miss thing... Mine is OK since warmer weather arrived, but it will most likely come back next winter.
Makes sense. It was our warmest day of the spring yesterday when they test drove my truck. As soon as I left the house this morning it was grinding so I drove it in AWD to work because it annoys the hell out of me.

It seems they don’t know exactly what’s causing the problem if you guys are having parts replaced multiple times in such a short period. Anyone know of an aftermarket solution to this problem?

Also, does the Raptor have the same design as well?

I was talking with my Service Manager about 2 weeks ago. Seems some of the replacement IWEs have too much grease in them. They've done multiple replacements on trucks as well. The tech removed the excess grease, and the truck smiled. Not saying all of them are like that, but in those cases at my dealer, it helped.
AFAIK, there is no aftermarket fix except for one company, and all they're doing is eliminating the disengage feature, and running them all the time, permanently locking, so your axles, front diff, and drive shaft are always engaged. Might as well just disconnect the vacuum line and do the same for free. Not worth the $ or time IMO.
Yes, the Raptor has the same, right along with the problems.

Which is similar to me just using the Auto 4wd since it operates from the center diff and front hubs are always in?

Yes, in 4A the IWE will be engaged, and you'll be turning all that nice stuff. All the power distribution will be thru the transfer case though, transferring power front to rear as it is needed.

Here is a way to eliminate the IWE altogether, pretty expensive when all you need to do is pull and plug a vacuum line.
