Lightbulb Compass Display and Outside temperature

I have a 2002 F150 and the compass display went out. I've looked through the manual that came with the truck and can't find a fuse relative to that component on the car. At the same time I noticed that the high mount break light is not functioning either. Could these two issues be related to a single fuse and if so, does anyone know under what fuse catagory it falls, or is it simply a bulb issue? Thanks. hcarr3

One thing for sure is, if the 2 brake lights on the back of the bed still work then I wouldn't think that the problem would be a fuse. I would bet on the bulb being burnt out on the high mounted brake light.

Sometimes on the newer vehicles the third brakelightis on a seperate fuse just in case the regular brake light fuse blows.

Default Compass Indication Missing

Same problem on my 2003 SCREW FX4. The word 'CAL' appears, but the compass will not calibrate and provide directional indication. I believe the circuit board (inside the overhead console) is okay, since the digital LEDs light up when the ignition is turned on. Outside temperature is displayed. Simply no compass bearing. Does anyone know where the actual compass sensing device is? Owners manuals do not cover such things.

On my 2005 I am pretty sure it was the black box behind the rearview mirror.

I have simular problem. No overhead display. I am assuming its the display board/bulbs, but I haven't torn into that console yet. Hoping to get help before I start my search and find.

I checked with my local Ford service rep who informed me that the problem is most likely the module...by that he means the circuit board physically located in the overhead console. He had recently resolved a similar customer issue with compass-only failure on a 2003 F-250 (temperature still worked, as does mine). Total cost was ~ $400.00 USD (~ $200.00 USD for the board plus labor). I think I will look for a board and replace it myself (I've had the console apart and the board out...it's not difficult). If anyone has a lead on where we can locate a replacement board please post.

Thanks!

Did anyone ever find a source to purchase a new compass/thermometer circuit board other than the dealer? Thanks!!
