i have checked youtube, and there is one or two decent vids, but most of the time i find better, more preferrabletutorials on here. this time i didn't find any so i figured id ask to see if i was just missing it

The factory intake is a cold-air intake. Most K&N (& other aftermarket) kits are hot-air intakes.

Regarding aftermarket air intake systems ...
Do it for the increased growl. Do it for the engine bay cosmetics. Do it for ANY other reason and you're wasting your $$$$$ http://www.gdmjoe.com/icons/soapbox-15.png OEM, stock .....

If you want coldER-air intake (which DID make a small but noticeable change on my truck), insulate the factory ducts with common self-adhesive foil-faced foam plumbing insulation:
