is there any good tutorial on how to install a k&n cold air intake on a 1999 f150????

youtube should have many videos on instructions to install

i have checked youtube, and there is one or two decent vids, but most of the time i find better, more preferrabletutorials on here. this time i didn't find any so i figured id ask to see if i was just missing it

The factory intake is a cold-air intake. Most K&N (& other aftermarket) kits are hot-air intakes.

Regarding aftermarket air intake systems ...

Do it for the increased growl.

Do it for the engine bay cosmetics.

Do it for ANY other reason and you're wasting your $$$$$

air box has a lid. MEANING: It's not a HAI (HotAirIntake) allowing heated engine bay air.
is made-of plastic. MEANING: Less heat-soak.

CFM exceeds engine requirements/needs. *UNLESS über engine modifications are done. e.g. cylinder head and/or cams.

any aftermarket increase in air flow comes at the expense of filtration.

no contaminating the MAF sensor with oil. *Which reduces performance and MPG.

Motorcraft, OEM air filters ...
- meets|exceeds engine air intake CFM requirements. reference
- good for 30,000+ miles (depending upon conditions).
- ABSOLUTELY NO possibility of MAF sensor oil contamination.
- dispose and replace maintenance.

there are NO performance and/or MPG gains with aftermarket air intake systems. If you're looking for performance and/or possible MPG gains, put your $$$$$ towards a tuner+tune(s).

My spectre intake sucks up all kinds of engine air (but it growls a little and I hear a whistle lol)

If you want coldER-air intake (which DID make a small but noticeable change on my truck), insulate the factory ducts with common self-adhesive foil-faced foam plumbing insulation:

I use a K&N drop-in, but I only put the correct amount of oil on it, and my engine is not MAF, and I've never had any problem from it (even when neglected):
