Red face Cigarette Smoke

I recently bought a new truck and when I bought it I didn't notice the cigarette smoke smell, I was wondering how to get it out I have a air freshener and I've used a odor bomb.

New truck with cigarette smell? Turn around and immediately take it back to the dealer and tell them to give you a different new truck. Cig smoke is very difficult to remove without major cost.

You could take it to a detailer, it will cost a pretty penny ($200+) or if you have the means, shampoo everything, run an ozone generator, and I think when they bombed our vehicle they ran it for awhile too because the nicotine and smell was in the vents. I've also seen where people leave a soaked rag with vinegar in it for days. Of course then it smells like vinegar.

Oh "new to you" Ok I get that. That's a tough one to say man. I smoked for 30 years and even after I quit 10+ years ago, the SUV I traded in for the truck I have now, still stunk to high heaven.

Cig smoke permeates every surface it can and coats all other surfaces, carpet, headliner, anything it can creep into. My best guess is to talk to a professional detailer but in all honesty your probably looking at replacing all carpet and possibly the headliner as well. Sun visors if they are cloth, seat covers, etc.....

Ozone works pretty well but you'll smell the ozone for a bit after. I did it on a TL I owned and I never caught a whif after but the wife said she got hints on hot days.

Cigarette smoke clings to everything, particularly in air vents. Now if you can leave the windows open for a couple of days, remove the cabin air filter if equipped, turn on the blower and spray Lysol into the filter opening till it comes out of all vents then let it dry and air out, then replace the filter with a new one. Next take your car to a place to steam clean the entire interior, unless you are capable of doing it. This will get rid of most of the odor but not all as the cigarette odor has saturated the foam in the seats and it has also penetrated the wiring harness.

A well equipped detail shop should have an Ozone Generator. That’s what it’s going to take to get the smell out. Shampoo everything and then run the generator in the truck with the HVAC on high and recirc for a while. That smell is trapped in every little corner of all that duct work behind your dash.

Had one at a Lincoln/Mercury dealer I once worked at, that thing could work miracles ridding bad smells.

i would start by spraying strong air freshener on every surface in the truck (headliner, door panels, dashboard, seats, etc.) now the air that blows through the vents probably has a smoke smell too. that will be hard to get rid of without spending a pretty penny
