Chirp/sqeal With No Drive Belt
Hey All, :)
New here and new to ford trucks, and I'm sure hoping there's someone willing to help? And hopefully they have ,the correct knowledge that I'm lacking?! Anywho, I bought a used 2006 f150 5.4 last year and for that year it's been a constant fix. :whistling2: A few weeks ago however I started getting a chirp/squeal under load, starting between 1800 - 2000 rpm and increased in volume with speed. To me it sounded like a drive belt. The sound gradually got worse, and is now from idle all through acceleration. Since my first shot at ridding the sound, I've changed: drive belt, tensioner and pulley, two idler pulleys, ac compressor clutch and pulley, and another pulley between the balancer and power steering pulley. The sound seems to be coming from the lower front passenger side (that's why I changed ac compressor clutch). I was about to change the alternator when I got an idea to take the belt off and run it belt-free. Glad I didn't run out and buy an alternator, like I did with ALL the other parts!! :censored: With the belt off the chirp/squeal is still there??? Has anyone had this problem or know of it? and know what the fix would be? It's been driving my CRAZY! I'm afraid to hook up my boat and go fishing early in the morning, for fear of waking the neighborhood! Maybe not all help, will be of help to me....? but you might be helping someone else with your responses. So thanks in advance from me!! and from others, I'm sure!!! Maybe I'll be able to do the same for this forum once I have more ford truck experience?! Thanks Again!!! |
Mine just started squealing and I suspect the alternator...
Any luck fixing it? |

I have the same problem with my '08 F150 V-6 engine. I replaced the balancer and still had some noise but then it quit for about 5,000 miles. Now it is coming back. Has anyone cured this problem by replacing the balancer with a Ford part?

Get an old water hose and cut off about a 5' piece. Hold one end to your ear and with someone revving the engine to when the sound starts. Move the open end of the the hose around on the engine (watchout for the fan) and you'll quickly pinpoint where the noise is coming from.
On my 92 toyota hunting rig, I quickly discovered a power steering bearing whining (going bad) which I couldn't hear over the regular engine noise without the hose. |
Simple check my man. Easy check to inspect your transmission mounts. If loose or worn bad, vibration from engine running could cause a irritating wanna pull out ur hair squeak toward rear of engine. Would be hard to find it with a radiator hose on ur ear. Lol. I've heard using a long screw driver. Radiator hose. Omg. I hope he is joking. I would like to see your ear after you tried that. Lmao!!!!

Sounds like cam phasers could be going out creating an oiling issue |
i had a similar problem with a screeching sound that started at about 1500 rpm's. Turned out to be an exhaust manifold problem.

Spalled cam follower maybe??
